Aim higher, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He rebuilt it, roofing it over…”
(Nehemiah 3:15)

Nobody else added a roof to the gate he was repairing, Jesus.

Only Shallun.

From this we can infer that it wasn’t something that had to be done.

Shallun thought it would be a good idea.

So he took the extra time
did the extra work
incurred the extra expense

to make the Fountain Gate unique, beautiful, desirable.

What an inspiration, Father!

May I always and forever do more than expected…for You.

Pray this Lazaroo with righteous determination:

“…without anger…”
(1 Timothy 2:8)

There’s righteous anger, Jesus

but that’s not what You’re talking about, is it?

You’re telling me to worship You and serve You and interact with others

free of the caustic acid of unrighteous anger.

My anger.

Where do I allow that to creep in, Holy Spirit?

Show me!

So rise up within me in Your love and power

that You enable me to totally eradicate it from my life.

In Jesus’ Name!

Amen.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads…”
(Ezra 3:12)

The world doesn’t look the same to all of us, does it, Jesus?

My age and level of responsibility
significantly affect how I see what’s happening.

There’s a danger with that, isn’t there?

At each stage of life I’m tempted
to think my perspective is superior to others’.

In some instances, that may be true.

But show me how much of the time
it’s nothing but self-centered delusion.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful affirmation:

“…through our gospel…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:14)

It was Your gospel, Jesus – Your good news –

that You left heaven
were born of a virgin
lived a sinless life
worked countless miracles
taught truth as no one else could
died on the cross for our sins
rose triumphant, from the dead
returned to heaven
are preparing a home in heaven for all who believe
will return one day
to establish Your kingdom forever.

Yes, that’s also Paul’s gospel…

and mine.

Pray this Lazaroo in jaw-dropping awe:

“He built the Most Holy Place…twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.”
(2 Chronicles 3:8)

It was also twenty cubits high, Jesus.

Wow.

That has to mean something.

You’re the Creator of Everything, the Ultimate Designer.

You could have given any shape You wanted to Your Most Holy Place

and You chose a perfect cube.

Why?

Well, it was copy and shadow of what’s in heaven –

the symbol of Your Presence among Your people.

Father…Son…Holy Spirit
Length…Width…Height
Different…Equal…

One.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“They displease God…”
             (1 Thessalonians 2:15)

How dare I, Jesus?

Unthinkable. Inexcusable. Indefensible.

But I have.

Dear God, I have displeased You –
more times than I can count.

That wasn’t my aim.

All I was doing…was what I wanted to do.

The reason I said what I did…
was that’s what I felt like saying.

I just wasn’t thinking.

No…that’s not quite right.
I was thinking, all right – about myself.

But not about You.

I’m truly sorry.

That changes.
Today.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the Israelites gave the Levites these towns and their pasturelands.”
(1 Chronicles 6:54)

Towns need pasturelands, Jesus.

It’s great to be around people –
but not all the time!

Even the most gregarious person among us
requires time away from the crowd.

You’ve built us with the need to get away…

…alone…with You.

Where’s my pastureland, LORD?

Where can I go to feel the wind in my hair…

the sun on my back…

and Your Presence filling my heart?

Pray this Lazaroo in costly faith:

“…for the sake of his body…”
(Colossians 1:24)

Coming only days after Good Friday, Jesus…

it would be easy to think Paul is referring to your physical body,
beaten and crucified to pay for my sins.

But no.

Paul is talking about Your body of believers
and what he willingly suffers in their behalf.

Do I have that kind of love and compassion for Your Church?

Do I consider the sacrifices I make for them

a hardship…or a privilege?

On this Easter Sunday, let’s pray this Lazaroo together with unbridled JOY!

“Elisha son of Shaphat is here.”
(2 Kings 3:11)

…and Jesus Son of God is HERE!

O Father! You promised through Your prophets
that the Messiah would come –

and Jesus came!

In the double portion of the spirit of Elijah You granted him,

Elisha worked miracle after miracle.

But NOBODY did what You did, Jesus.

NOBODY has done what You’ve done.

You’re alive! You’re alive! You have risen from the dead!

You rule and reign forevermore!

CHRIST IS RISEN!

CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED!

Pray this Lazaroo from your heart:

“If you have…any tenderness…”
(Philippians 2:1)

Oh, how I need tenderness, Jesus!

I don’t ask people for it very often.
I’m not sure why.

Maybe because I don’t want to appear weak and needy

but I am.

That’s the truth. I am.

Which is why I’m coming to You.

I can’t put up a front with You.
You know what’s inside me.

You know my fears, frustrations, failures

love me in spite of them

and are so, so tender.
