Pray this Lazaroo in renewed passion:

“…shaming your own house…”
(Habakkuk 2:10)

It’s not about me alone, is it, Jesus?

It’s about those who live with me
those who grew up with me
those I count as friends
those where I work
those in my city, state, country
those in my church.

When I mess up, I shame them.

But the good news is this:

When I please You, I honor them!

And even when I’ve strayed

by returning to You
I give them hope.

Pray this Lazaroo with a fervent spirit

“The river gates are thrown open…”
(Nahum 2:6)

When Ninevah’s river gates were opened, Jesus

their city was flooded.

The very thing that had been a blessing to them

became their undoing.

Are there areas in my life that carry that risk, Father?

People, work, sports, foods, entertainment, behaviors –

given to me as blessings from You

that I might misuse, turning them into self-inflicted harm?

Absolutely.
Every one of them.

Help me enjoy Your blessings in the right way!

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…this is not your resting place…”
(Micah 2:10)

Thanks for the reminder, Jesus.

This world is not my home.

You’ve placed me here for a purpose.

I can ignore it, reject it, do some of it
or give everything I’ve got –

in Your wisdom and strength
and with Your awesome blessing and favor

to fulfill it.

But regardless, when my turn is up

You’ll take me out.

The closer I get to my exit

the more I’m determined

to get ‘er done.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“Jonah started into the city.”
(Jonah 3:4)

Beginnings are crucial, Jesus!

Without them, nothing gets done.

But starting a task that seems doomed to failure is especially hard.

That’s why Jonah ran the other way
when You assigned it to him.

Still, successful completion of the task isn’t the most important thing.

Obedience to You is.

Only after I obey

do I get to find out if You will bring it to completion.

Because only You can.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…the exiles…will possess the towns…”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Exiles are supposed to have zero rights, Jesus.

How in the world could they possess entire towns?

The answer is clear and startling:

The world didn’t do this for them!

You did.

This has Your Signature all over it.

You absolutely love to lift up
the broken, the fallen, the marginalized

those who are laughed at, disrespected
tossed to the curb

displaying in them Your love and mercy
for all the world to see.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“…see…the oppression among her people.”
(Amos 3:9)

You do see, Jesus!

You see and care.

That means so much to me!

To know it breaks Your heart too
is comfort in our sorrow.

But even more, to know that You’re All-Powerful

and that even while the oppression is going on
Your plan to intervene in Your perfect way and time

is operational.

It’s my responsibility to fight oppression.

But You’re the only one who can stop it in its tracks.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“The LORD thunders at the head of his army…”
(Joel 2:11)

What a frightening sight and sound that had to be, Jesus!

You on the attack.
Dear God.

At such times

may I always be behind You as a soldier in Your army
never in the hapless crowd facing You…Your army…

and certain defeat.

Whenever You gather Your troops to engage in a righteous war

call on me.

In Your power and by Your grace
I’ll be there.

Allow yourself to be overwhelmed with gratitude as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the LORD has a charge to bring against you…”
(Hosea 4:1)

Could there be anything more chilling, Jesus –

than, seated at the defendant’s table,
to look over at the other table and recognize with a shock:

You’re the Prosecutor.

You’re also the Jury of Father, Son, Holy Spirit

and Judge.

What would be my chances of an acquittal?

Zero. You don’t bring a charge unless it’s true.

…until I see my  Defender seated next to me

and it’s You.

Pray this Lazaroo in profound gratitude:

“The one who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.”
(Revelation 2:11)

That’s extremely good to know, Jesus…

because the first death scares the livin’ tar out of most of us.

Consequently, hearing there’s a second death out there, just waiting…

doesn’t do just a whole lot for our emotional health.

But as much as I dread the painful dying experience of the first death

I love knowing I don’t have to fear what comes after.

Pray this Lazaroo in fierce confidence:

“…but there is a God in heaven…”
(Daniel 2:28)

That’s my comfort, Jesus!

You Exist. You’re real. You’re There.

You’re here!

When people misunderstand what I’m trying to do and berate me, this is why I can sit there and take it:

“Yeah, ‘…but there is a God in heaven!’”

When my enemies attack me and attempt to destroy me and the work I’m trying so hard to do for you, this is what keeps me plugging away:

“Yeah, ‘…but there is a God in heaven!’”
