Pray this Lazaroo in unvarnished awareness:

“’Although you wash yourself with soap and use an abundance of cleansing powder, the stain of your guilt is still before me,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.”
(Jeremiah 2:22)

I can’t wash away my own sin, can I, Jesus?

A physical scrubbing can’t erase a spiritual offense.

My only hope is Your love, mercy and forgiveness!

And on the cross – HALLELUJAH!

You demonstrated all three.

Accordingly, I’ve got to place 0% of my faith in me

and 100% in You.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Dear children, this is the last hour…”
(1 John 2:18)

You’ve always been, Jesus.

You’ll always be.

You spoke the worlds into existence.

Everything was created by You and for You.

As scientists observe the expanding universe

all the galaxies are moving apart from each other.

When astronomers extrapolate backwards

everything originates at a single point
13.7 billion years ago.

So when you say this is the last “hour”…

I realize we may be talking about a fairly nice chunk of time! 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with rock-solid determination:

“People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the Lord and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.”
(Isaiah 2:19)

If we love and fear You now, Jesus

we’ll shout for joy in that day
fearless and triumphant!

But if we disdain and ignore You now

that day will be horrific terror
like nothing we’ve ever known.

I’m taking my stand with You.

Now!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing anticipation:

“…God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons…”
(2 Peter 2:4)

Some people say they’d rather party in hell with the sinners, Jesus

than be bored to death in heaven with the saints.

But You add that in those gloomy dungeons

“the worms that eat them do not die,
and the fire is not quenched.”

How blind they are, Jesus!

Hell is nonstop, eternal agony.
The party’s in heaven.

Get a grip! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves…”
(Song of Songs 3:1)

A bed may not be the best place to conduct a thorough search, Jesus. 😉

Perhaps she didn’t want to get out of bed.

Where am I snuggling down in a warm bed of sleepy comfort –

instead of diligently searching to achieve
those things You’ve called me to do?

If they’re out there somewhere in the dark and cold

help me haul out to find them.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…rid yourselves of all…slander of every kind.”
(1 Peter 2:1)

Got it, Jesus.

You don’t want me to say anything false and harmful.

About anyone.

But why would I want to?

Only if I’m tempted to do so by Satan –

to harm someone I don’t like
to get back at someone who’s hurt me
by passing along a rumor I think is true.

O God! Don’t let me sow that seed!

I sure don’t want to reap it.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“For a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:21)

Well, it’s not a meaningless great misfortune for the person who inherits all that, Jesus! 😉

Isn’t that the whole point of what I’ve accumulated –
to have the joy of passing it on to those I love?

Love isn’t fair!
It’s outrageously generous.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered recognition:

“…whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.”
(James 2:10)

Thank You for clarifying this, Jesus.

The law doesn’t hand out grades of A, B, C, D or F
The law is pass/fail.

If I miss one question, I flunk.

Thank You for Your amazing grace!

Thank You for accepting me on the basis of faith!

Because when it comes to the law

I flunked a long time ago.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”
(Proverbs 3:9-10)

The key is that old-fashioned word, “firstfruits,” isn’t it, Jesus?

The first tomatoes that ripen
the first grapes that reach full color
the first figs to arrive at succulent readiness

Those are the hardest to part with…

and the most meaningful of all
to devote to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“So, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…’”
(Hebrews 3:7-8)

That’s a big “if,” Jesus.

Most people haven’t heard Your voice.

Except…if I’ve read the Bible

or heard a preacher or teacher proclaiming Your Word

I guess I have heard from You.

So I’m not off the hook, am I?

Looks like I’d better not harden my heart. Smile

O God!

Help me make my heart totally responsive to You!
