Pray this Lazaroo with a pure, humble heart:

“…you flood the LORD’s altar with tears.”
(Malachi 2:13)

There are tears, Jesus…

and then there are tears.

There are those who cry because they’re angry

or because of what they’ve lost.

Some are able to manufacture fake tears

in order to manipulate the tenderhearted and gullible.

Others sob in their punishment because they’ve been caught –

not because they’re sorry they did it.

But when I flood Your altar with tears

may it be in sincere, heartfelt repentance.

Pray this Lazaroo with sharpened awareness:

“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.”
(Zechariah 3:1)

It’s easy to forget that kind of thing happens, Jesus.

I tend to assess the situation
based on what I can see, hear, feel, taste, touch, smell.

But that may be the least of it!

Because I belong to You

I’ve enrolled in a spiritual, life and death battle.

I’d do well to remember that.

Pray this Lazaroo with grateful specificity:

“The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month.”
(Haggai 2:20)

That’s nailing it down pretty tight, Jesus

right to the day.

You appreciate it when I thank You generically

“…for all You’ve done.”

But that’s a prayer that, if I’m not careful

…can be uttered almost without thinking.

How much better when I remember exactly what You did for me

how You did it

and when You did it!

Surrender to God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Woe to you who live by the sea…”
(Zephaniah 2:5)

At first glance, that comes as a surprise, Jesus.

Oceanfront homes are highly sought-after.

But not if You curse it!

A home by the sea is vulnerable to hurricanes

to unusually high tides
to tsunamis.

Depending on how isolated

perhaps even to burglary
…or worse.

In fact, no home is safe

without Your protection.

Plant me wherever You want me, Father!

Wherever I can receive
Your incomparable, undeserved blessing.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“Woe to him who…establishes a town by crime!”
(Habakkuk 2:12)

I can’t even begin to imagine how many towns have been established by crime, Jesus.

It has to be a huge number.

But the point is this:

It didn’t pay off.
Not for the people who did it.

Oh, they may have appeared to prosper in the beginning
but the end is what matters –

and that was a different story.

Well…unless they repented!

In that case
You turn our woe…into “Woah!”

Pray this Lazaroo in solemn passion:

“Its slave girls moan like doves…”
(Nahum 2:7)

Oh, Jesus.

The beautiful sound of a dove, ruined!
Turned into heartbroken tragedy.

That’s what sin does to every beautiful thing You’ve created.

I’ve seen it with my own eyes
heard it with my own ears.

I’ve also felt it
when my own sins have cost me dearly.

Never again, LORD! Never again!

May I be reminded to stay ultra close to You
every time I hear the sound of a dove.

Pray this Lazaroo with passionate rejoicing!

“I will surely gather all of you, Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people.”
(Micah 2:12)

You’ve done it, Jesus!

Exactly as You promised.

You brought back Your people to their homeland!

You reestablished the nation of Israel!

The place now throngs with people –

not only with descendants of Abraham
but with all who come to marvel.

Be energized, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“When the news reached the king of Ninevah…”
(Jonah 3:6)

For the average person

it’s almost impossible to get a message to a big country’s leader, Jesus.

Even if it affects a huge number of people

telling them what they need to hear seems hopeless.

But it isn’t!

Not for You!

If the message on my heart for that leader comes from You

show me how to send it in the most effective way!

I’ll trust You to deliver it.

Pray this Lazaroo with unswerving holy intent:

“Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau…”
(Obadiah 1:21)

You gave the entire promised land to the descendants of Jacob, Jesus

even though Esau was the firstborn
the one traditionally in line to receive the inheritance.

But Esau had no heart for You

didn’t value what You value.

So he lost his chance

leaving the descendants of his younger brother
to rule over the whole land.

O God!

May what I value
perfectly align with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“‘Hear this and testify against the descendants of Jacob,’ declares the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.”
(Amos 3:13)

Some things are hard to hear, Jesus

so we plug our ears
making noises with our mouths
engaging in frenetic activity

trying to keep Your warnings of doom
from penetrating all the way to our hearts
forcing us to repent.

But it’s the hardest messages from You

that I most need to hear, isn’t it?

Forgive me, LORD!
I’m listening.
