Pray this Lazaroo with a pleading heart:

“Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district. Next to him, the repairs were made by their fellow Levites under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.”
(Nehemiah 3:17-18)

These weren’t just leaders, Jesus.

They were rulers.

When people of this stature and authority get their hands dirty in order to respond to a crisis

it inspires everyone else to do likewise.

God give us such people at the very top!

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves…with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”
(1 Timothy 2:9)

I don’t often think of good deeds as clothing, Jesus

a precious behavior that adorns those who worship You.

You don’t want the literal clothing a person wears

to detract in any way from their spiritual garments –

emanating from the good they do

because of Your life-changing Presence

in their daily lives!

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the LORD, the God of Israel…”
(Ezra 4:3)

That sounds rude, Jesus.

Here these “nice people” were offering to help the Jews build Your temple

and they were rebuffed!

The Jews wouldn’t let them!

But Your leaders recognized that these people were their enemies

looking for a way to sabotage the work.

O God!
Open our eyes!

Pray this Lazaroo in total adoration:

“…God our Father…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:16)

You and the Father are One, Jesus.

When Philip asked You to show them the Father
You answered, “ Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”

Wow.

O Father!

You live in unapproachable Light!
No one has ever seen you or can see You.

No wonder You came to earth through the virgin birth

in the Person of Your Son

to help us draw closer to You!

Thank You for Jesus!

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“He made the curtain of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim worked into it. For the front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits long, each with a capital five cubits high.”
(2 Chronicles 3:14-15)

King Solomon didn’t actually do the work, Jesus

but he’s the one who ordered it done.

If he hadn’t, the temple wouldn’t have been built.

From leader to worker

it takes us all!

Pray this Lazaroo in submissive recognition:

“…when we were torn away from you…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:17)

Clearly, that was a painful time, Jesus

but You allowed it.
It’s entirely possible that You caused it!

Why would You allow something so painful to happen to one of Your own?

It’s because not everything that’s painful is bad, isn’t it?
Sometimes pain is useful, instructive, essential, eye-opening.

No greater example of that hard truth exists

than the suffering You endured on the cross

for those you love.

Glorify God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“His sister’s name was Maakah. Another descendant was named Zelophehad, who had only daughters. Makir’s wife Maakah gave birth to a son and named him Peresh. His brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.”
(1 Chronicles 7:15-16)

Back then it was all about the boys, wasn’t it, Jesus?

But why?

Physically, they were able to do more work.
They could strap on their swords and fight their enemies.

But in today’s world

women are increasingly crucial
to the advancement of Your kingdom!

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
(Colossians 1:27)

Absolutely, Jesus!

A rich, glorious, glory-anticipating total mystery
that I gladly embrace with all my heart

to the very marrow of my bones:

You!

The Creator of the universe and everything in it
King of kings and LORD of lords
Savior of everyone in the world who believes

living in me!

Oh, HALLELUJAH!

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“‘…bring me a harpist.’ While the harpist was playing, the hand of the Lord came on Elisha and he said, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will fill this valley with pools of water.’”
(2 Kings 3:15-16)

Of course, I don’t know, Jesus…

but I suspect asking for a harpist
had more to do with Elisha’s preferences than Yours.

You don’t require a harpist to speak to us.

But I’m deeply touched by the leeway You allow us
as we reach out to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Do nothing out of…vain conceit…”
(Philippians 2:3)

It would be helpful if you would show me how I end up with such an attitude, Jesus.

Everything I am, everything I have is from You.
How could I ever arrive at the conclusion that it originates with me?

Is it the praise of others – directed to me rather than You?

If so, when that happens, I need to be extremely diligent

about deflecting the praise to You
to set the record straight.
