Pray this Lazaroo in healthy, loving fear:

“God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day. If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.”
(Psalm 7:11-13)

So much for the blasphemous idea that You’re nothing but benevolent, toothless mush, Jesus.

May I never mistake the amazing, loving grace
You extended to me on the cross

for weakness against unrepentant, willful sin!

Pray this Lazaroo in growing gratitude:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.”
(Philemon 1:25)

When my spirit is low, Jesus

it affects everything I think, say and do.

It dramatically and negatively affects

all the people who come
into contact with me
including those I love and need the most.

But when I realize I’m the recipient of Your loving, unmerited grace

my spirits begin to lift!
I have hope!

which in turn raises the spirits
of everyone around me.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed resolve:

“Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty. But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow, but that stop flowing in the dry season, and in the heat vanish from their channels.”
(Job 6:14-17)

Job’s friends started out so well, Jesus

but before long, couldn’t resist the urge
to kick him while he was down.

May my healthy fear of you

keep me from being one of Job’s “comforters.”

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…encourage the young men to be self-controlled.”
(Titus 2:6)

Of course, all of us need to be self-controlled, Jesus

not just young men

but also young women, older women, older men.

Perhaps that’s because it’s harder for a young man to learn…

not to mention so very important.

I love the word, “encourage,” though!

Not simply a gruff command

but using words that explain
offer helpful examples
give incentive
inspire hope

letting these young men know:

They can do this!

…and so can I.

Cry out to God for protection, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain people dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them.”
(Esther 3:8)

Haman was plotting to destroy Your chosen people, Jesus!

Please deliver Your Church and those I love
from those whose hearts Satan has filled
with the same evil intent!

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.”
(1 Timothy 2:14)

In the midst of my heated discussions it’s easy to forget, Jesus:

there can be collateral damage.

I may be able to walk away from an argument no worse for the wear.

But what about the other person?
What about those listening in?
What about those who hear about it?

Yup.

Gotta stop quarreling with other Christians about words.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Beyond them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs in front of their house; and next to them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house. Next to him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section, from Azariah’s house to the angle and the corner…”
(Nehemiah 3:23-24)

Some people only take care of themselves, Jesus

but a precious few also take care of others.

In Your strength and by Your grace
count me in their number!

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…she must be quiet.”
(1 Timothy 2:12)

Now come the questions, Jesus:

Should a woman always be quiet?

What about when she can speak up and save someone’s life?
What about when she needs to tell somebody about You?
What about when her baby needs to hear a lullaby?
What about when someone needs encouragement?
What about when sin rears its ugly head?

In these and countless other times You command her
to use the mouth, lips, tongue and vocal cords

You’ve given her!

Shake your head in disbelief, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“At the beginning of the reign of Xerxes, they lodged an accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem. And in the days of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel and the rest of his associates wrote a letter to Artaxerxes. The letter was written in Aramaic script and in the Aramaic language.
(Ezra 4:6-7)

Anyone who lodges a complaint against Your people, Jesus

is hurling an accusation against You.

Last time I checked

that’s not an especially good idea.
