Pray this Lazaroo with fierce determination:

“And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring.”
(Malachi 2:15)

Since that’s what You’re looking for, Jesus

that’s who I long to be.

There’s only one problem:

I’ve got a long way to go.

Make that a long, long, long way to go.

But no matter how many times I fall short, landing on my face in disgrace

I’m going to keep trying…and trying…and trying…

leaning on You, Holy Spirit
all the way

until my faith
becomes sight.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua: ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: “If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.”’”
(Zechariah 3:6-7)

You love doing this for us, Jesus –

giving us huge incentive to honor You.

Cause Your holy passion to rise within my soul

to become everything You’ve created me to be!

Be very careful, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…horses and their riders will fall…”
(Haggai 2:22)

A rider on a horse may feel safer, Jesus, almost invincible.

The horse raises them up high off the ground
making them feel above it all.

The horse is faster than soldiers on foot
able to race away from danger.

But it’s an illusion, isn’t it?

A rider on a horse is a bigger target

and the bigger they are
the harder they fall.

Maybe I’d better stay humble

and not get up on my high horse.

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt gratitude:

“The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds…”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

That is so like You, Jesus!

Even while You punish

You bless.

You take away one thing

and give another.

It’s who You are: Loving, Generous, Forgiving, Merciful –

which is why I’m still drawing my next breath…

experiencing Your gracious gift of life…

walking this earth.

If that was not who You are

I would have been drawn, quartered and fried to a crisp

long, long ago.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate indignation:

“Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies!”
(Habakkuk 2:15)

They were doing that 2,600 years ago, Jesus

and they’re still doing it today.

But this isn’t merely about drunkenness, nudity and voyeurism, is it?

In that case, we might think it doesn’t apply to us.

This is about taking advantage of someone.

Now that…

may hit a little closer home.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…with nothing to fear…The lion killed enough for his cubs and strangled the prey for his mate, filling his lairs with the kill and his dens with the prey.”
(Nahum 2:11-12)

This is imagery, Jesus.

You’re not really talking about lions.

You’re rebuking a sinful nation
who once acted like the king of beasts

but who now, because of their disobedience
have lost their fangs.

Do I live in such a country, Father?

Among a people once righteous and strong
who have forsaken You?

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them. The seers will be ashamed and the diviners disgraced. They will all cover their faces because there is no answer from God.”
(Micah 3:6-7)

That’s the price of disobedience, isn’t it, Jesus?

The miracles disappear.
The true prophets come up empty.

All that’s left are false prophets
who prophesy the delusions of their own minds.

O LORD!

Send a revival!
Send a revival!
Send a revival!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“By the decree of the king and his nobles…”
(Jonah 3:7)

That’s what kings do, don’t they, Jesus?

They issue decrees.
They make sweeping statements that become the laws of the land.

They rely on a cadre of experts who advise them
or rubber stamp whatever they say.

I’m no such king.

I’ve never issued a decree –
at least not one anyone paid much attention to.

But I do have one request:

Direct the decrees of people in power
who affect the lives of those I love.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“The vision of Obadiah.”
(Obadiah 1:1)

No wonder You gave Obadiah a vision, Jesus…

along with a place among Your 66 books of the Bible!

Although he was palace administrator under the wicked King Ahab

he was a devout believer in You.

He hid a hundred of your prophets in caves to spare their lives

supplying them with food and water.

Help me realize, LORD

that You’ve strategically placed me where I am
to make maximum impact for You!

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“‘I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up. People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:7-8)

I must be missing some of the signs You’re giving me, Jesus.

While I’m wondering why in the world these things are happening to me

You’re saying:

“Return to Me!”
