Take note! as you Pray this Lazaroo:

“‘The man who hates and divorces his wife,’ says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘does violence to the one he should protect,’ says the Lord Almighty. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful.”
(Malachi 2:16)

To the newlywed husband and wife, Jesus

those words are unnecessary and unthinkable!

But with the passage of time

and the inevitable sins they commit against one another

Your warning to every husband whom Satan incites to abuse his wife

is essential.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned wonder:

“‘See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will remove the sin of this land in a single day.’”
(Zechariah 3:9)

It was revealed to Joshua that You are that Cornerstone, Jesus!

The seven spirits of Your Father that range throughout the earth

were upon You

as You gave Your life on the cross

to remove the sin of all who believe
in a single day.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed dedication:

“‘On that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring’…”
(Haggai 2:23)

Why were You so pleased with this governor of Judah, Jesus?

It was because He had the courage to obey You!

He delivered Your warning to Your people
even though it was the last thing they wanted to hear.

He valued pleasing You
ahead of pleasing them.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“The land by the sea…will belong to the remnant of the people of Judah…”
(Zephaniah 2:6-7)

You’re amazing Jesus!

You take land away from its sinning inhabitants
and give it to Your obedient people.

And not just any land, either!
Beautiful, highly prized waterfront land!

But of course, as Creator of all lands

that’s Your right.

May I always live before You in such a way

that You are happy to give me new lands
and never take any of it away!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“Now it is your turn!”
(Habakkuk 2:16)

Normally, Jesus –

when it’s finally my turn, I’m so happy!
I’m filled with excitement!

Not this time.

You’re telling me that if I take unfair advantage of others

I’ve planted deep into Your soil of justice a seed

that will sprout, send up shoots, bud, flower
and produce bitter fruit.

Then my turn will come to take not one bite

but to choke down every bit of it
until I vomit.

Take sober warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘I am against you,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘I will burn up your chariots in smoke…’”
(Nahum 2:13)

This is what happens when You’re against someone, isn’t it, Jesus?

You destroy the things they trust.

Why?

Because they’re trusting them instead of You!

They fail to see that their “chariots” – or whatever they’re trusting –

are gifts from Your hand
given to them in love.

But when they make Your gifts their god

they quickly find out:

You will tolerate no gods before You!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Hear this, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel, who despise justice and distort all that is right; who build Zion with bloodshed, and Jerusalem with wickedness.”
(Micah 3:9-10)

It’s the leaders You hold most accountable, isn’t it, Jesus?

You expect them to set the standard for their followers

to love justice and do what’s right
But with honesty, integrity and hard work –

not by crushing the innocent.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth.”
(Jonah 3:7-8)

First of all, that’s downright impressive, Jesus.

I’ve never heard of covering animals with sackcloth.
None of the people’s sins was the animals’ fault!

Clearly, this king was over-the-top humbling himself before You.

No wonder You relented!

That’s an example I need to keep in mind.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“We have heard a message from the Lord: An envoy was sent to the nations to say, ‘Rise, let us go against her for battle…’”
(Obadiah 1:1)

You’re stirring up the nations against us, Jesus?

No. Not us.
Against our pride-filled, sinning brothers.

I’m sorry for them…

but thankful that we’re not the ones under Your wrath.

Except…this is a warning, isn’t it?

If you’re taking our brothers to the woodshed
we’ll be next –

if we follow their example of disobedience.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“‘I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:10)

When these things happen to us, Jesus

we think You’ve abandoned us.

But no! You haven’t!

You’re shaking us awake
getting our attention

inciting us to return to You
before it’s too late.
