Check the mirror, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord, ‘Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home?’”
(Jonah 4:1-2)

First, Jonah runs from You, Jesus.

After he spends three days in the belly of a fish

he repents.

But when his obedience doesn’t go the way he likes

he justifies why he ran from You to begin with.

It’s a good thing I don’t ever do anything like that, Father.

Right…?

Right…?

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes?”
(Obadiah 1:5)

Yes they would, Jesus.

Grape pickers try to gather most of the grapes

but it slows them down too much
to pick every single one of them.

You, however, are informing proud Edom

that You’re about to pick them clean

leaving nothing but memories
of what they used to possess.

Help me live clean, Holy Spirit

so I don’t have to be picked clean.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“Therefore this is what the Lord, the Lord God Almighty, says: ‘There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail.’”
(Amos 5:16)

Though You had repeatedly warned them, Jesus

Your people refused to listen.

They took credit for the blessings You had bestowed upon them

mistreating those less fortunate.

O God! May I never have to be taught

what it’s like to have You against me

instead of for me.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
(Joel 2:29)

It’s happening, Jesus –

right before my very eyes.

I’m seeing men and women who are looking more and more like You!

They’re rising up, setting the pace
urging the rest of us to join them
in living our lives the way You had in mind

when with incomprehensible love
You laid down Your life for us on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears. Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets, I killed you with the words of my mouth—then my judgments go forth like the sun.”
(Hosea 6:4-5)

I’ve been loved with that same disappearing love Jesus.

It’s awful.

Love never fails.
Their love was a lie from the beginning.

No wonder You respond to its duplicity

with warning words
followed by blazing judgment.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”
(Revelation 3:18-19)

Thank You for loving me that much, Jesus!

Forgive me for not being grateful at the time.

I’m ashamed to admit that It’s only when I look back

that I can feel the love.

You could have abandoned me in my sin

but You didn’t!

Pray this Lazaroo with rejoicing:

“…servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire…They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.”
(Daniel 3:26-27)

It doesn’t get any more amazing than that, Jesus!

You rewarded these men for their refusal to bow to an idol
by performing one of the great miracles of all time.

But others, whom You love just as much,

were burned to death for their faith.

Only in heaven will I understand.
Until then, You have my complete trust.

Pray this Lazaroo in new awareness:

“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.”
(Jude 1:22-23)

I’ve heard it for years, Jesus:

“Hate the sin, love the sinner.”

Most people don’t say anything about the sinner’s clothing.

But we should.
Your Word doesn’t contain throwaway lines.
Every Word from Your mouth has a specific purpose.

Clearly, You not only don’t want me to sin

You don’t want me to dress like a sinner!

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“‘Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go!’ So they went out and began killing throughout the city. While they were killing and I was left alone, I fell facedown, crying out, ‘Alas, Sovereign Lord! Are you going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?’”
(Ezekiel 9:7-8)

No, Jesus.

You didn’t destroy them all.

But You do know whom to destroy and whom to spare.

I don’t deserve it –

but thank You for sparing me

right down to this very moment.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him…”
(3 John 1:12)

It’s nice to hear how good someone is, Jesus

even better to discover it firsthand.

Just wondering…

what’s my reputation?
what do people experience with me firsthand?

I hope they speak well of me!

But whether they do or don’t

all that really matters is what You think of me.

Correction:

Not “think.”

Know.
