Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“…the LORD commanded the fish…”
(Jonah 2:10)

…and he did exactly what You told him to, Jesus.

If a fish can do what You command

why can’t I?

Oh, I do…most of the time.

But I have some things I need to work on, don’t I?

Some might argue that a fish is too stupid to do anything other than what he’s told.

O God! Help me attain that level of stupidity!

It’s embarrassing to be upstaged by a fish.

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will occupy the fields of Ephraim…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

Ephraim was Joseph’s second son, Jesus.

When Jacob blessed his two grandsons
he put Ephraim ahead of his older brother Manasseh.

His descendants became one of Your 12 tribes of Israel.

But in the Promised Land
they failed to dislodge those worshipping idols
and became idol-worshippers themselves.

Who are those I need to dislodge from my life, Father?

before I follow their evil ways
and lose my fields to others?

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting faith:

“When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble?”
(Amos 3:6)

Well, no, Jesus.

Not much anymore. At least, not in my city.

When a trumpet plays taps at a funeral

we’re usually sad…but seldom tremble.

These days, trumpets are happy instruments

bringing bright, brassy sounds to bands, orchestras, concerts.

But back in the day, the sound of a trumpet in the city

meant the enemy was attacking.

And one day Your trumpet

will melt hearts.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“They do not jostle each other…”
(Joel 2:8)

Well, let’s just say, Jesus…

these supernatural locusts did a whole lot better
than we all-too-ordinary humans.

We tend to jostle one another quite a bit.

Oh, when there’s no rush
and plenty to go around
we’re polite enough.

But just let something go on sale

or become popular, in short supply

and suddenly there’s a whole lot of pushing and shoving going on!

Please, LORD.
Don’t let that be me.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“I will live with you.”
(Hosea 3:3)

Nothing unusual to say to a wife, Jesus…

unless she’s left her husband to become a prostitute –
which is exactly what Hosea’s wife Gomer had done.

There was only one reason he took her back:

You told him to.

To his everlasting credit, he did it –

maybe the hardest command he ever obeyed.

You wanted to demonstrate through him what You’ve done with me

in taking me back
after all my sins.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“These are the words of him who is the First and the Last…”
(Revelation 2:8)

Well, that would be You, Jesus.

You’re First of all time
You have no beginning.

You’re Last of all time
You have no end.

You ARE.

You’re the Great, One and Only

I AM.

You’re the Creator of everything that exists

the Rock who accompanied Israel in the desert
the Cornerstone of the Church
the Bright and Morning Star

My Savior, my LORD

my God.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon…”
(Daniel 2:24)

Took a lot of courage, Jesus.

Daniel was one of the wise men
Arioch was ordered to execute.

Daniel didn’t know this man would listen to him.

By showing up on his doorstep
Daniel could have become Arioch’s first victim.

But filled with confidence in You, Daniel marched straight into the danger.

Help me follow in the footsteps of Daniel!

Pray this Lazaroo – overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…all the ungodly acts they have done…”
(Jude 1:15)

They say the Internet never forgets, Jesus –

that once I post something
it’s out there, somewhere in the ether, forever.

That used to be the case with my ungodly acts, didn’t it?

But no more.

In sorrow and repentance I’ve confessed my sins to You.

You’ve forgiven me.
Forever.

You’ve permanently, irrevocably blotted them out of Your mind

completely removing them –
as far as the east is from the west.

Pray this Lazaroo with rock-solid confidence:

“Do not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people.”
(Ezekiel 3:9)

When anyone else tells me not to be terrified

they’re wasting their breath, Jesus.

Fear is an automatic response to such people.

But when You tell me not to be afraid of them, that’s different.
You’re telling me You will protect me.

The better I know You, the more clearly I understand:

There’s absolutely no reason for me to be afraid.
