Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…like animals they too will perish. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.”
(2 Peter 2:12-13)

That’s both a harsh word, Jesus

and an immensely comforting one.

Do I want everyone to get what they deserve?

No.

In that case, I’d go to hell.

But when evil people arrogantly, relentlessly, unrepentantly harm others?

The purity of Your righteousness
demands an accounting.

Nevertheless, I will pray for their repentance and restoration

until it’s too late.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My beloved is knocking: ‘Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.’ I have taken off my robe—must I put it on again? I have washed my feet—must I soil them again?”
(Song of Songs 5:2-3)

Yes, Jesus

She must.

That’s the price of love.

It’s no longer what I want.
It’s what they want.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority…to the emperor, as the supreme authority…”
(1 Peter 2:13)

This one’s hard to do, Jesus

whether the supreme authority is an evil dictator
or somebody I voted against.

But it has nothing to do with them, does it?

You command me to submit to them
for Your sake.

So for your sake – when it comes to preference –

I will.

But if they ever require me to disobey You

they can take a hike.

Admit it – as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:11-12)

One more strong reminder, Jesus:

No matter how self-sufficient I feel
I’m not going to do as well all by myself.

No matter how antisocial my personality
sooner or later I’m gonna need somebody.

Please lead me to the right somebody.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”
(James 3:7-8)

That explains a lot, Jesus.

I can’t control what someone else says.

Only You have that power.
Only You can make them speak up

or shut up.

I can’t even control what I say

without Your help.

I need help.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”
(Proverbs 4:19-22)

What a contrast, Jesus!

I get to choose:

be clueless about what caused
my last face plant

or live an overcoming life
in the Light of Your Word.

Pray this Lazaroo in heart-pounding love:

“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”
(Hebrews 5:7)

The whole time You were here, Jesus

You knew why You’d come.

Even so, You begged to be delivered from death.

As He sometimes says to me
Your Father said, “no.”

But to our resurrection from the dead

He says, “Yes!”

Pray this Lazaroo in patient confidence:

“In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies. He says to himself, ‘Nothing will ever shake me.’ He swears, ‘No one will ever do me harm.’”
(Psalm 10:4-6)

From a distance, Jesus

that’s the way it seems.

While the righteous suffer

it looks like the wicked are doing just fine.

But You’ve made it clear:

Their day is coming.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your love for all his holy people…”
(Philemon 1:4-5)

I can’t show love to everyone who needs it, Jesus!

So when I see or hear of one of Your saints
showing love to the ones I can’t

my heart is warmed.

I know Yours is, too!

It takes us all of us, doesn’t it?

Only together can we

help lift every burden
dry every tear

share the anguish
of every aching heart.

Pray this Lazaroo in utter adoration:

“What is mankind that you make so much of them, that you give them so much attention, that you examine them every morning and test them every moment? Will you never look away from me, or let me alone even for an instant? If I have sinned, what have I done to you, you who see everything we do?”
(Job 7:17-20)

It’s overwhelming, Jesus –

to realize You’re hearing my every thought

my every word

seeing everything I do.

Overwhelmingly wonderful!
