Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“I will give him…the land he set his feet on…”
(Deuteronomy 1:36)

That’s quite a promise, Jesus.

Of course, Caleb deserved it.

When 10 of the 12 men Moses sent to spy out Canaan returned

only he and Joshua believed You would keep Your promise
and enable the Israelites to take it.

I’m no Caleb, Father.

But with all my heart
I believe You will keep Your promises to me!

Please.

Give me the land You’ve reserved for me.

Pray this Lazaroo, unashamed:

“The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon…”
(John 1:41)

What an example, Jesus.

Andrew finds You…but doesn’t keep it to himself.

I’ve found You, too.

But the excitement of first discovery
too often gives way to taking it for granted.

I’m so used to the 1on1 relationship with You I enjoy each day

that I may not be telling as many people about You
as desperately need to hear.

Open my eyes!

and my mouth.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“The Merarites were appointed to take care of…all its equipment, and everything related to their use…”
(Numbers 3:36)

That last, Jesus, is quite a catch-all:

“…and everything related…” to the tabernacle equipment’s use.

Those kinds of open-ended assignments make me nervous

because all of this is for You!

I’m scared to death I’ll get it wrong

when You deserve to have everything done right.

And then I remember:

So long as I stay 1on1 with You

I can’t fail.

Pray this Lazaroo in exultant faith:

“My soul glorifies the Lord…”
(Luke 1:46)

That’s pretty deep, Jesus.

Deeper than glorifying You with my mouth.
Deeper even than glorifying You with my mind.

Soul deep.

Glorifying You from the very center of my being
the essence of who I am.

No artifice, no pretense, no doing it for show.
The real thing.

Mary’s soul glorified You

because she was pregnant with the Savior of the world.

My soul glorifies You

because that same Savior
saves me.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“He is to lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it…”
(Leviticus 4:24)

How could I bear to look that goat in the eye, Jesus?

Feel his warm, innocent head underneath my hand

and know I was about to kill him
for something I had unintentionally done?

But that’s what You required of Your leaders.

You wanted them to see, hear, smell, feel
the price of their careless sin

the very thing my sins
did to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with follow-through:

“…as a testimony to them.”
(Mark 1:44)

I can – and should! – testify about You by what I say, Jesus

but even more by what I do.

Words are important.

But unless they’re followed by action
they’re revealed to be weightless, hollow, cheap.

May my obedient actions

be in perfect harmony with my testimony about You

lest it be said of me

that what I do speaks so loudly against me
that no one can hear a word I say.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“God also said to Moses…”
(Exodus 3:15)

Gotta remember that, Jesus.

You say more than one thing.
From You…there’s always more.

Sometimes I get so locked in on the one thing

that I tend to ignore the other things.

But nothing You share with me is of unimportance.

Unlike the rest of us, everything You say matters.
If it didn’t, You wouldn’t say it.

So what else do You want me hear from You today, Father?

I’m all ears.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“Get up…”
(Matthew 2:20)

Joseph was fast asleep, Jesus, dreaming!

But I guess You knew that
since You’re the one who gave him the dream.

It was good news that he and Mary could go back home from Egypt

now that You had helped the murderer Herod exit this life
and move on to the next.

“Get up!” You told Joseph.

And he did.

Instant obedience.

You really like that in a person, don’t You?
Guess I’d better oblige.

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened…”
(Genesis 3:7)

Adam and Eve got their eyes opened the hard way, Jesus:

The moment they sinned against You
they realized they had made a monstrous mistake.

They lost their innocence

their equality
their closeness
their Garden of Eden
their freedom from pain
their kinship with the animals
the ease with which they grew their food.

Worst of all, they lost their happy relationship with You.

It’s not worth it.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“…’you have violated the covenant with Levi,’ says the LORD Almighty.”
(Malachi 2:8)

You promised amazing things to your servant Levi, Jesus

and to his sons and grandsons who followed him.

But You also gave the Tribe of Levi some dos and don’ts.

Sadly, the day came when they did the don’ts
and omitted the dos.

You’ve promised even more amazing things to me

than those You promised to Levi
but still, within covenant.

Help me honor Your terms!
