“Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.”
(Mark 3:13-15)

You called those you wanted, Jesus.

By Your grace, You’ve called me.
That means You want me!

Oh, my God.

Thank You!

I don’t know why You want me

but I’m determined not to let You down.

Pharaoh would have been wise to learn Who You Are, Jesus

before disobeying You.

But since he did not

You proceeded to introduce Yourself.

(Genesis 4:6-7)

Sin is crouching at my door, too, Jesus.

May I never forget how passionately and persistently
sin desires to have me!

But may I always remember:

Greater are You in me
than the one who is in the world!

Pray this Lazaroo in humble gratitude.

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple…”
(Malachi 3:1)

You told us the name of that messenger, Jesus:

John the Baptist.

You Yourself are the Lord they were seeking who came to Your temple.

Though You came to Your own
they didn’t believe in You.

But there were some who believed in You.

To this day, all who do
have become Yours –

heart, mind, body and soul.

Pray this Lazaroo in trusting confidence:

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘These people say, “The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord’s house.”’”
(Haggai 1:2)

That doesn’t sound like discernment, Jesus.

It sounds like laziness.

May I never put off doing Your will because it requires a lot of work!

And by the same token:

May I never put off doing Your will
because I realize my very best work won’t be enough!

May I always trust that Your All-Powerful Hand

will be able to accomplish what I cannot!

(Zephaniah 2:9)

When only a remnant of survivors is left, Jesus

common sense says they’re probably finished.

But You supersede common sense!

You achieve the impossible through Your holy people!

The silence that comes from jaw-dropping awe
as we consider

Who You Are
What You’ve Done
What You’re Doing
What You will do

in our lives

and throughout the world!

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder…”
(Nahum 3:1)

People would expect a city full of plunder

to be in pretty good shape, Jesus!

But it’s the blood they’ve shed to get it
the lies they’ve told to keep it

that earn Your pronouncement of woe.

When You say, “Woe!”

I’d better say, “Woah!”

and quickly repent
stop harming others
stop telling lies

or I’ll discover firsthand
just how terrible Your woes can be.
