Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule…”
(Habakkuk 2:6)

No one likes to be made fun of, Jesus

especially when the accusations are true.

Most people do it behind the person’s back.

But when they taunt them to their face
they not only think the person is incompetent
but powerless.

In my own strength I’m both, Father:

incompetent and powerless.

Which is why I choose to live my life

in Your ability
fueled by Your incomparable power.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…marshal all your strength.”
(Nahum 2:1)

Oh, Jesus.

You’re telling the people of Ninevah to organize themselves

in an attempt to prevent what You’re about to do to them.

Make that a futile attempt

because when You attack, no one can stop You.
You will not leave the guilty unpunished

unless, of course, they repent.

Ninevah refused.
They believed Your warnings were empty

They aren’t.

O God! I’m as guilty as they were.

May I never make their mistake.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“He assigns our fields to traitors.”
(Micah 2:4)

If you took from me what I had worked so hard for, Jesus

and gave it to my enemies?

I’d be crushed.

But if You gave my most treasured possessions to people I thought were my friends

only to discover they were

deceiving
lying
conniving traitors?

I’d be stunned speechless.

Something tells me I never want to cross You

never want to offend You
never want to get on Your wrong side.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“My prayer rose to you…”
(Jonah 2:7)

That’s what I always hope will happen when I pray, Jesus

that my praises, requests, thanksgiving
rise to You.

Of course, that’s the flowery way of putting it –

as if my location on earth is down
and Your location is up.

But what I really mean is

when I pray
I hope You listen.

Actually, it’s stronger than that.

When I pray
I have to know beyond all doubt
that You’re listening.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit

“…they will set it on fire…”
(Obadiah 1:18)

You’ve promised that Your people will set on fire the house of their enemies, Jesus

just by being who they are –

a fire
a flame.

What is there about us that sets the houses of our enemies on fire, Father?

Oh.
Right.

It’s not me, it’s You.

Your word is in my heart like a fire
shut up in my bones.

I’m weary of holding it in.

In fact
I can’t.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Hear this word the LORD has spoken…against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt…”
(Amos 3:1)

That had to be terrifying for them, Jesus

…and heartbreaking for You.

You had worked miracle after miracle for Your people

only to have them ignore it and run after false gods
who hadn’t done a thing for them
and couldn’t.

I’ve had experience doing things for people with short memories

which is why I’m so thankful that You
are watching.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“…like a crackling fire consuming stubble…”
(Joel 2:5)

If a non-farmer saw a field of burning stubble, Jesus

they might try to put it out
thinking something bad is happening.

But that would be a mistake.

After harvest, farmers burn the severed stalks of stubble into the ground as fertilizer for next season’s crop.

Next time You set my stubble on fire, please remind me:

You’re not harming me!

You’re preparing my soil for a greater-than-ever crop

next season.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“The LORD said to me, ‘Go, show your love to your wife…”
(Hosea 3:1)

Most husbands might have trouble showing love to a wife who is cheating on them, Jesus.

But the whole point is:

That’s what You want us to do for one another
because that’s what You do for us.

Sin is cheating on You with Satan.

But in spite of the fact that we’re spiritual adulterers
we still long for You to show us Your love.
