Pray this Lazaroo in grateful adoration:

“…by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil…”
(Hebrews 2:14)

Powerfully ironic, Jesus – and totally unexpected.

When jealous religious leaders crucified You
Satan thought he had won.

But stunningly, it was Your death that defeated Satan!

With Your wholly undeserved death
You paid for the sins of all who put their faith in You

just as when I die to myself
I rise in thrilling triumph over the evil one.

Keep your eyes wide open as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…deceitful men the LORD abhors.”
(Psalm 5:6)

I abhor them too, Jesus.

As uncomfortable and unpleasant as it is to face someone who blatantly detests me

I far prefer dealing with their honest hatred
than thinking someone likes me

who doesn’t.

You know everyone’s heart.

You see their outward speech and behavior
when it masks an evil intent.

Point them out to me, LORD!

Don’t let me fall for their smooth talk
or be undone by their wicked schemes.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…welcome him…”
(Philemon 1:17)

Some people are easy to welcome, Jesus.

They’re outgoing, gracious, humble, fun.

Other people…not so much.

They’re surly, selfish, egotistic.
Some are downright mean, devious, evil.

Do You want me to welcome everybody?

No, You don’t.

You tell me to have nothing to do with some of them

not even eat with them.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t change.

With You, all things are possible.

My prayer?

In heaven

that You will welcome me.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…wait for daylight in vain…”
(Job 3:9)

Job is still decrying the day of his birth, Jesus

wishing it had never occurred.

But he utters a phrase that sends a chill running down my spine.

When my life is dark –
so dark I can’t see Your hand in front of my face

I pray for daylight.

My hope is in You!

In Your goodness!
In Your forgiveness!
In Your Mercy!

O faithful God!

Let me once again see dawn.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…their minds…are corrupted.”
(Titus 1:15)

I can’t imagine anything much worse than this, Jesus.

If my mind is corrupted
it affects everything I think, say and do

who I am.

Other than a miracle, there would be no escape

because a corrupted mind wouldn’t see the need.

How might I end up with a corrupt mind?

It’s by focusing on that which is corrupt, isn’t it?
Making corruption my entertainment.

Help me rip away, LORD!

while I still can.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…in the seventh year of his reign.”
(Esther 2:16)

That’s the thing about reigns, Jesus…

I know how long I’ve been doing this
but have no idea how much longer it’ll last.

Well…that’s not exactly accurate.

I may have an idea, all right
but my idea may be flat-out wrong.

I may think this is a temp job

and do it the rest of my life.

I may think I’ve got job security

and be on the street tonight.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“They laid its beams…”
(Nehemiah 3:6)

There they were, Jesus…

repairing the Jeshanah Gate of Jerusalem.

When they laid those beams, they weren’t done.

There was a lot of work left to do.

Just as they were, I’m presented with a choice:

I can focus on the size of the huge task ahead of me
and become discouraged

Or I can be filled with thanksgiving for what You’ve accomplished through me

and be invigorated to get back to work.

Pray this Lazaroo in Godly desire:

“…that we may live peaceful…lives…”
(1 Timothy 2:2)

Some people seem to enjoy constant drama, Jesus.

If it’s not happening around them, they’re bored.

If things become too quiet for their taste, they’ll stir the pot themselves

goading others into a reaction, good or bad.

They don’t care, so long as everything’s hopping.

Turmoil…is their entertainment.

Please rescue me from these people, LORD!

Never permit me to become one of their number.

Make me…

a lover of peace.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…as authorized by Cyrus, king of Persia.”
(Ezra 3:7)

Nothing like getting authorization, Jesus.

But not even the king’s authorization counts
unless You back it up.

Authorize me, LORD!

I’m not looking for authorization from anyone else.

No matter who thinks otherwise

You can do great things through me
for Your glory

not mine.

I don’t want the praise due You.

I just want to matter in Your kingdom
the only kingdom that matters in heaven or on earth.
