Pray this Lazaroo in sobered assessment:

“I had confidence in all of you…”
(2 Corinthians 2:3)

That’s quite a statement, Jesus.

The larger the number of people it refers to
the harder it is to make.

It’s one thing to have confidence in a single person I know well

quite another to believe in every member of a large group.

Paul knew he had taught them well…

but I’m both a witness and an example:

Good teaching cannot guarantee
that everyone listening will follow it.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, ‘The LORD be with you!’”
(Ruth 2:4)

That’s a wonderful greeting, Jesus

so long as it’s sincere.

But greetings have a way of being repeated so often

that they totally lose their meaning
and I parrot them without thinking about what I’m saying.

Cure me of that, Father!

If I bless someone by saying:

“The LORD be with you!”

May I say what I mean

and mean what I say.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence…”
(1 Corinthians 2:1)

But eloquence is what so many people long to possess, Jesus!

They suppose it will open doors for them

and it will.

They suppose it will bring them wealth

and it certainly can.

They suppose that it will make people flock to them

and it has that ability.

But eloquence without the power of God

is the crackling of kindling
vanishing in the flames.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep reverence:

“They forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers…”
(Judges 2:12)

It’s bad enough to forsake You, Jesus.

But for a person who has been reared by a Godly parent to reject You?

Inexcusable.

Those who were reared by ungodly parents

have to shake their heads in disgust and disbelief.

In many of our hearts there’s a desire to be something different from our parents.

But may I use that driving passion to love You more

not less.

Pray this Lazaroo with redoubled intent:

“Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God…”
(Romans 1:28)

That’s huge, isn’t it, Jesus?

not only to hear about You
but to remember it.

How many times have I heard messages, read books, participated in Bible studies that truly impressed me and were potentially life-changing

only to look back months or years later
and not be able to recall a single thing I learned?

In fact, is it learning…

if there’s no doing?

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“…unless…you have tied this scarlet cord in the window…”
(Joshua 2:18)

Rahab knew the one thing that would save her and her family, Jesus –

that scarlet cord
tied in the window.

Throughout the days before Israel returned to attack her city

I’ll bet she guarded that scarlet cord with her life

just as I do the scarlet cord that will save me on Your return:

Your blood shed on the cross

the only sacrifice that forever erases
all my sins.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…listen carefully to what I say.”
(Acts 2:14)

Some people use language like that because they’re stuck on themselves, Jesus

They think everything they say is worth my rapt attention.

But when Your Apostle Peter utters those words

I’d better listen.

In fact, if it’s anywhere in the Bible, I’d better listen!

Your words
are my life.

When the people around me speak

please give me the wisdom to know whose words to hang on
and whose to dismiss.

Pray this Lazaroo in unshakable faith:

“…the LORD your God, who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day…”
(Deuteronomy 1:32-33)

If only I could see you guiding me that clearly, Jesus!

When the cloud lifted, they knew it was time to break camp
then they followed the cloud You provided wherever it went.

When it stopped
so did they.

Right now I’m straining my eyes to get a glimpse of that cloud!

Please.
Show me.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.”
(John 1:37)

Would you please use me in that way, Jesus –

so when I talk to others about You
they decide to trust You as their Savior?

I don’t possess such words…

because it takes infinitely more than words!

It takes You, moving on their hearts

calling them
drawing them to Yourself.

But in Your wisdom, You’ve chosen to use ordinary people to accomplish that extraordinary thing.

Use me.

Listen for the Holy Spirit’s prompt, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He was appointed over those who were responsible for the care of the sanctuary.”
(Numbers 3:32)

That’s a lot of responsibility, Jesus –

to be responsible for those who are responsible.

Not everyone’s cut out for that.

Sometimes people are envious of those in authority
not realizing the unrelenting weight they bear.

I’m not asking for more than You’ve given me.

All I ask is this:

Make my assignment crystal clear
Then equip and inspire me to do it.
