Pray this Lazaroo in holy wonder:

“…when we were with him on the sacred mountain.”
(2 Peter 1:18)

I know Peter is talking about the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus

when Your clothes suddenly became dazzling white –
whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them –

when he, James and John saw Elijah and Moses appear
and watched awestruck, as they talked with You.

Wow. No wonder he called that mountain, “sacred.”

But in truth, that’s what any place becomes
where I spend time with You:

“Sacred.”

Pray this Lazaroo in unshakable trust:

“…the rains are over and gone.”
(Song of Songs 2:11)

That’s bad news for people in drought, Jesus…

but wonderful news for those around the world
who experience a torrential rainy season.

You use both in my life, don’t You?

Days of heavy, unrelenting rain that cause me to cry out to You
…which help me grow

Parched, thirsty, dry seasons that cause me to cry out to You
…which help me grow.

Whatever it takes

to help me grow.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the power of God:

“…it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed…”
(1 Peter 1:18)

“It’s all about the money.”

That’s what people say, Jesus.

They may be right about some things
but they’re wrong about the one thing that matters most:

my eternal salvation.

No amount of silver or gold could pay the sin debt I’ve accumulated over my lifetime.

The cost of my redemption was unjust, unfair – outrageous:

Your blood, shed on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“I saw that wisdom is better than folly…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:13)

Of all the wise words Solomon spoke, Jesus

this is one of the most obvious.

Except it wasn’t to him – not at this stage of his life – when because of his sin, his outlook had darkened.

You had given him this amazing gift of miraculous wisdom
appeared to him and spoken to him twice

but he lost focus.

O God! I beg You!

Don’t let that happen to me.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser focus:

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”
(James 1:25)

So let me get this straight, Jesus:

If I intend to experience sweet success
I dare not read my Bible aimlessly.

Instead, You want me to read it with singleness of purpose –
to discover exactly how You want me to live

then live it.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Wisdom…will save you also from the adulteress…”
(Proverbs 2:12, 16)

There are a lot of people who need that kind of wisdom, Jesus…

certainly, the man who is tempted to cheat on his wife needs it
but so does the wife of the man who is tempted to cheat
the husband of the woman who’s a cheater
the children and/or grandchildren of both couples
their friends and relatives who see what is happening

and desperately beg You to intervene.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“…the children God has given me.”
(Hebrews 2:13)

I’m so thankful to be one of those children God has given You, Jesus!

but I suspect on some days
I’m a lot happier about that than You are.

After all, You have to deal with my…issues.

Yes, You love me – with a fierce strength I cannot begin to comprehend.

But the bottom line is:

I get You…
and You get me.

Wow.

You sure got the short end of this deal.

Pray this Lazaroo with redoubled incentive:

“You destroy those who tell lies…”
(Psalms 5:6)

You don’t exactly beat around the bush, Jesus.

You refuse to tolerate liars.

Do I ever identify!

The thing about liars is
there’s no way to tell exactly what’s going on.

After I talk with one of them

I know even less than I did before.

Just knowing how You feel about them is comforting –

not to mention motivating.

The last thing I want to be

is one of their number.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.”
(Philemon 1:16)

It doesn’t matter how obnoxious some of Your people are, Jesus

or how many times they sin, get up and sin again.

Anyone who has put their faith in You – no matter how weak –

is my brother, my sister.

Because You died for them and they belong to You

You expect them to be dear to me.
