Pray this Lazaroo, in wholehearted devotion:

“…the LORD your God, who went ahead of you on your journey…”
(Deuteronomy 1:32-33)

You go ahead of me in countless ways, Jesus…

but right now I’m thinking of two.

The first is mind-bogglingly miraculous:

Before I think a thought, say a word, make a move, You know it.
You’re already there, waiting for me.

The second is even more beautiful:

when You’re always ahead of me on my journey
because I’m following You every step of the way.

Pray this Lazaroo with immeasurable gratitude:

“Look! The Lamb of God!”
(John 1:36)

That’s what John the Baptist called You, Jesus.

The moment he spoke those words, no thoughtful Jew could escape his meaning.

For more than 1400 years, Your people had observed the Passover
by sacrificing a lamb to atone for the sins they had committed.

Now You – the Messiah! – had come to sacrifice Yourself

once and for all
for the sins of the world

and for the world of sins

I have committed.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“The chief leader of the Levites was Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest.”
(Numbers 3:32)

There are lots of leaders in a large organization, Jesus

but somebody has to be chief.

He doesn’t have to be the smartest leader – nor the

wisest
most charismatic
best dressed
richest
best looking
most experienced
best liked

She doesn’t have to be a “he.”

But it’s vital that everyone knows who the chief leader is

and fervently prays for You to guide him.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith-energized anticipation:

“At that time Mary got ready…”
(Luke 1:39)

What an insight into the kind of girl Your mom was, Jesus!

No sooner does she hear Your Father’s plans for her
than she takes action to get ready for Your birth.

That’s faith, isn’t it?

All she had to go on
was the word of someone who said he was an angel

then disappeared.

May I be the kind of person who takes action

the moment I see it in Your Word.

Pray this Lazaroo…in dust and ashes:

“He shall…burn it on the altar…”
(Leviticus 4:19)

There are some things I need to burn on the altar, Jesus:

my self-centered pride
the fear that You won’t come through for me this time

the excuses I keep coming up with to explain my disobedience
the anger that rises within me when things don’t go my way

my harsh judgmentalism
the deprecating comments I sometimes make about others.

Help me burn every last one of them

to a crisp.

Pray this Lazaroo, trembling with emotion:

“Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.”
(Mark 1:41)

Oh, Jesus.

Your touch…

a handshake
Your arm draped around my shoulder

a fist bump
a high-five!

a bear hug that lifts me off my feet
…even to brush against You in passing.

What I wouldn’t give!

Will I have to wait till heaven?

Probably.

But until then…

You’ve touched me in so many other ways
that I know Your first physical touch

will be worth the wait.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep trust:

“And this will be the sign to you…”
(Exodus 3:12)

It’s just human nature to want a sign, Jesus –

especially when it’s something counterintuitive.

Sometimes You give Your people a sign.

But not typically.

Most of the time, You want me to take You at Your Word

plus nothing.

If I demand a sign from You before I obey, that’s me saying:

“Prove it!”

which is detestable

because You’ve already proven Yourself to me
over and over and over again.

Pray this Lazaroo with Spirit-led discernment::

“And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet…”
(Matthew 2:15)

Thank You for true prophets, Jesus –

all the more because charlatans
still roam the streets.

Perhaps the most dangerous are those who believe they’re truly hearing from You

when in fact, they’re prophesying the delusions of their own minds.

They mislead many, because in their mistaken sincerity
they could pass a lie detector test.

Protect me, Father!

May I never fall under their spell.

 Pray this Lazaroo…on high alert:

“‘You will not surely die,’ the serpent said to the woman…”
(Genesis 3:4)

You called Satan a liar, Jesus.

The problem is, he seldom identifies himself when he lies to me!

He speaks through my unwitting friends and family
weaves his web of falsehood through my culture.

But his most insidious disguise

is when he masquerades as me

deceiving me into believing his thoughts…are mine.

Help me measure every idea that pops into my mind
by the straightedge of Your Word.
