Put your hope in God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“See! The winter is past…”
(Song of Songs 2:11)

On this day of December, that statement couldn’t be less true, Jesus…

…unless You’re not talking about the weather.

Certainly, that’s what Solomon was referring to when he spoke to his bride.

But I, too am Your bride

and there are seasons of life I would like to discuss:

There’s beauty in winter
but hardship, as well.

If You’re willing, I’m willing
for my winter to be past.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed focus:

“For you know…”
(1 Peter 1:18)

Do I know something just because I’ve heard it, Jesus?
When I’ve seen it with my own two eyes?

Obviously not.

How many times have my ears recorded sounds
my eyes collected sights

that my mind never processed?

Even when I’m paying close attention

how many times have I totally missed the point?

Every time I think I know something

I demonstrate that I do not yet know
as I ought to know.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled perspective:

“What more can the king’s successor do than what has already been done?”
(Ecclesiastes 2:12)

What a preposterous question, Jesus!

Yet Solomon meant it to the bone.

So far as he was concerned, he had done everything worth doing.

He couldn’t imagine that those who followed him could top it.
There was nothing left.

Am I that blind, Father?

I pray not!

Help me make it my goal to empower those after me

to surpass everything I’ve ever done.

Pray this Lazaroo on this Christmas Day in grateful determination:

“…not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it…”
(James 1:25)

You didn’t forget us, Jesus!

You came to this earth as a baby to save us from our sins.

You did it.

Because You came

now I can do it, too –
whatever You ask.

There will never be room for excuse about how I tried to do it

and just couldn’t

‘cause You’ve never told me to do anything

that You weren’t willing to help me accomplish.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful trust:

“Wisdom will save you…from men…who are devious in their ways.”
(Proverbs 2:12, 15)

Just as Herod lied to the magi claiming he wanted to worship You, Jesus

so there will be those who attempt to deceive me –

some of whom will hide behind seemingly “holy” purposes to do it.

It’s one thing to be able to tell that’s what’s going on…

quite another to have sufficient wisdom to know what to do about it.

That’s where You come in, isn’t it? 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Here am I…”
(Hebrews 2:13)

…and that’s all I need, Jesus:

You.

To know You’re here – right here with me

is all I have to know.

If I have You and nothing else I’ve got it all.

If I have everything but You
I”ve got nothing! Nothing! Nothing!

nothing at all.

If I have You and no one else I’ve got it all

If I have everyone but You
I’ve got no one! No one! No one!

no one at all.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“…you hate all who do wrong”
(Psalms 5:5)

You hate wrongdoers, Jesus –

those who love to do wrong
who keep doing wrong
who don’t regret doing wrong
who look forward to doing more wrong
who refuse to do right.

I don’t know when a person crosses the line between occasionally doing wrong

and becoming a wrongdoer

but my guess is the best way to stay on the right side of that line

is to do as little wrong as possible.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“He is very dear to me but even dearer to you…as a man…”
(Philemon 1:16)

The moment I read those words, Jesus…

I realize I don’t think that way –
not as often as I should.

I tend to think of people in terms of what they can or can’t do for me, or for those I care about.

Seldom is a man dear to me…just as a man
or a woman…just as a woman.

Sounds like that needs to change.
