Pray this Lazaroo with eyes of faith:

“…he saw Jesus passing by…”
(John 1:36)

I do want to see You, Jesus!

but not passing by.

I long to see You walking toward me

a big grin on Your face
Your arms open wide to give me a bear hug

ready to get an excited, scrufty cub hug right back. 😉

Now that I think about it…looking back on my life…

that scene has been repeated over and over and over again.

Wow.

Thank You!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“They were responsible for…everything related to their use.”
(Numbers 3:31)

You’ve given some people glamorous assignments, Jesus

while others of us have been chosen to bat cleanup

busing the tables
sweeping the floors
carrying out the garbage

after those who throw huge parties.

Do You love the party-throwers more than You love me, Jesus?

Does my humble service go unnoticed by You?

No.
On both counts.

You’ve said it and I’m banking on it:

The last
will be first.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“May it be to me as you have said.”
(Luke 1:38)

Do any words please you more, Jesus?

I might say I love You…
then complain about the lot in life You’ve chosen for me.

It’s so easy to be jealous when I see the amazing things You’re doing for someone else

not realizing that while I’m feeling sorry for myself

someone is staring hard at me from a distance

jealous because of how good You’re being to me.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted devotion:

“He shall remove all the fat…”
(Leviticus 4:19)

Okay, Jesus…

I know You’re telling the priest what to do with the bull they’re about to sacrifice as a sin offering.

But am I hearing an inner prompt from You, Holy Spirit?

Are You telling me there’s some fat I need to remove from my life?

Where am I wasting precious, irretrievable time?
What activities and behaviors are clogging up my spiritual arteries?

Please show me.
It’s got to go.

Take stock, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Filled with compassion…”
(Mark 1:41)

Am I ever filled with compassion, Jesus?

If so, when?

Is it only when it involves the people in my family

in my circle of friends?

or am I able to be filled with compassion for all those who are hurting

total strangers
people who speak a different language
those of another skin color?

Am I filled with compassion

for those who’ve brought suffering on themselves

…for those who’ve brought suffering on me?

 Pray this Lazaroo with rejoicing:

“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’ ”
(Exodus 3:12)

That’s all I need to know, Jesus!

When You’re with me, I’m

unstoppable…
unless there’s danger ahead

always on top…
unless it’s better on bottom

wiser…
unless I need to be humbled

faster…
unless it’s time to slow down

bigger…
unless there’s an advantage to being smaller

calmer…
unless my emotions ought to be stirred

first…
unless the sweet spot is at the back of the line.

Seek the signs of God’s timing as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…where he stayed until the death of Herod.”
(Matthew 2:15)

Sometimes that’s what has to happen before I can move, Jesus.

Somebody has to quit
disappear
get fired
or die.

It isn’t safe to move until they’re gone.

Waiting for that to happen isn’t easy.
But when I get antsy, it helps to remember:

When – and if – it needs to happen
You’ll bring it to pass right on time

not one minute early
not one minute late.

 Pray this Lazaroo with self-awareness:

“Do not refuse me.”
(1 Kings 2:16)

What do I think when somebody uses that line on me, Jesus?

I feel a little anxious.

If they’re afraid I’m going to turn down their request

it occurs to me that maybe I should.

Of course, as Adonijah was doing to Bathsheba

they’re saying it to set me up –
appealing to my desire to be liked, to be seen as a generous person.

On Bathsheba, it worked.

Open my eyes, LORD!

Don’t let that stuff work on me.
