Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog determination:

“…another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD…”
(Judges 2:10-11)

How did this happen, Jesus?

Did the previous generation fail to teach their children
or did the children reject their parents’ teaching?

Somebody blew the handoff of faith.

The baton got dropped in the dirt.

When that happens

evil is sure to follow.

O God! I’m begging You!

Help me pass it on.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another.”
(Romans 1:27)

That’s one of our biggest weaknesses, isn’t it, Jesus?

We see how You’ve designed us
and think we have a better idea.

That’s the sin of homosexuality –

but it’s also the sin heterosexuals commit when they

swap wives
commit adultery
live together before marriage.

We have our reasons.

But it all boils down to one thing:

We actually think we know better
than Almighty God.

Pray this Lazaroo…without excuse:

“This oath you made us swear…”
(Joshua 2:17)

Not really, Jesus.

True, Rahab could have turned them in for spying.
Had she done so, they could have been executed.

But she didn’t have the power to make them do anything.

The fact that they traded their lives for hers
was their choice.

Throughout the rest of my life

people will attempt to manipulate me.

But if pleasing You is my highest desire

not even a gun to my head
can make me do otherwise.

Pray this Lazaroo trusting totally in the Word of God:

“Fellow Jews…”
(Acts 2:14)

Peter said that to identify with His people, Jesus

but since You gave Your life on the cross and rose from the dead

things have changed.

The true Jew is no longer the person who can trace his lineage back to one of the 12 tribes of Israel.

The true Jew is one who puts his trust in You
as the promised Jewish Messiah.

It’s not enough to be born to Jewish parents.

I have to be born again.

Pray this Lazaroo with Godly determination:

“In spite of this…”
(Deuteronomy 1:32)

There are two ways to take that, Jesus…

“In spite of this…”
I did the right thing.

“In spite of this…”
I did the wrong thing.

Satan throws up countless roadblocks to keep me from doing the right thing.

But when I ignore his attacks and temptations and obey You
I win.

There are times, however, when You repeatedly warn me not to go down a dark path.

But when I ignore You and do it anyway
I lose.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“The next day John was there again…”
(John 1:35)

There’s something to that, isn’t there, Jesus?

Showing up the next day.

Everybody wants to be there on the big day.
People love showing up for a huge event.

Then it’s over.
Then most people move on

to the next big thing.

Not John.

He knew You were unlike anyone else on earth.
He wasn’t about to move on.

There was no one to move on to.

You’re It.
John knew it.

So do I.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“They were responsible for…the curtain…”
(Numbers 3:31)

What a responsibility, Jesus!

The Kohathite clans of Israel oversaw the care
of this holy, profoundly significant curtain

made of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen
with cherubim worked into it by a skilled craftsman.

It shielded the ark of the testimony
allowing only the high priest to enter once a year

until the day You gave Your life for us on the cross

and Your Father ripped it open from top to bottom.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered…”
(Luke 1:38)

When someone wonders why Your Father

chose Mary to be Your mother, Jesus…

that spirit of total submission had to be near the top of the list.

In an era when her fiancé could have had her stoned to death
for being pregnant by someone else – claiming God did it! –

she said, “Yes – do with me whatever You like.”

O God!

May that same spirit of total submission to You
regardless of the cost

reside in me.

Pray this Lazaroo with gratitude:

“The rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting.”
(Leviticus 4:18)

The day You poured out Your blood for me on the cross, Jesus

all this killing of bulls and sheep was done.

But there was one advantage for them back then, wasn’t there?

The people who had to do all that
were reminded of the horror of their sins.

While too often…
I forget.
