Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with renewed diligence:

“He will teach us his ways…”
(Isaiah 2:3)

Thank You for teaching me, Jesus.

But am I learning?

In some areas, yes. I am.

I’m so grateful.
So are those around me.

But in other areas…

no one could guess that I had ever heard a word You’ve said.

I’ve got the world’s greatest Teacher

You’ve got the world’s worst student.

You’re sure getting the short end of this deal.

But that’s not what I want.

Help me, Jesus!

Rise up within me
to make this day different.

Pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo in grateful faith:

“…the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son…”
(2 Peter 1:17)

What a moment for You, Jesus!

Your Father…
introducing You to the world.

It was a moment for us, too – the whole human race.

The answer to all our prayers had come.

I remember the moment when that introduction touched me

when I finally recognized who You are
and what I had to do.

I gave my life to You on that day

because You had already given Your life for me.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with a heart full of love:

“Look! There he stands…”
(Song of Songs 2:9)

Solomon’s wife is head-over-heels in love with him, Jesus.

The mere sight of him stirs her heart.

If a woman can feel that way about her husband
and a man about his wife

if parents can feel that way about their children
and children about their parents

how much more should I feel that way about You?

No, I don’t see you “standing” someplace.

For that I’ll have to wait till heaven.

But everywhere I look

I see You

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with unshakable confidence:

“…you call on a Father…”
(1 Peter 1:17)

I do, Jesus –

I call on a Father.

But not just any father.

Not even my dad.
No human being will do.

Try though they might

none of them can clean up the messes I’ve made

none of them can enable me to accomplish

the assignment You’ve given me

none of them can make me into what You had in mind

when You created me.

The Father I call on is Yours:

the Father of us all.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, in steadfast faith:

“…nothing was gained under the sun.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:11)

That’s how we feel when we’re children, Jesus –

that we can’t accomplish much.

But as we grow older, we start to believe if we work hard, we can get things done

until we live long enough to see what we’ve done
become undone.

That’s when we start to wonder if we’ve lived in vain.

But we haven’t.

Because what will endure forever is not what we’ve done.

It’s what we’ve done
for You.

Open yourself to God, as you pray aloud the words of this Lazaroo:

“…whoever looks intently into the perfect law…”
(James 1:25)

Your law is perfect, Jesus.

Of course, what people do with it isn’t.

Most of the criticism the Bible receives is caused by us

not You.

Sometimes we misunderstand Your Word.
Sometimes people misunderstand us.

Sometimes we attempt to use it for our own purposes

rather than Yours.

But when I open my Bible with an open heart and an open mind and open myself to You

my soul is filled with wonder.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with Godly caution:

“Wisdom will save you…from men…who leave the straight paths…”
(Proverbs 2:12-13)

I’m always looking for a way to do it better, Jesus

and faster
and more successfully.

I wouldn’t mind it being more enjoyable, either.

So that means I’m open to new ideas and methods

shared with me by people I don’t know very well.

O God!

May I never adopt a crooked approach

no matter how popular
no matter how attractive.

May I be guided by Your wisdom that reminds me:

The true shortest distance between any two points
is always Your straight path.

Pray the words of this Lazaroo aloud, with pure devotion:

“Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.”
(Hebrews 2:11)

That’s a stunner, Jesus.

Earthly siblings are sometimes ashamed of one another.
How could we not be? We’re sinners.

But You’re perfect. Sinless.

By our standards, you should be ashamed of the whole lot of us.

Why aren’t You?

It’s because we’re Your handiwork, isn’t it?

And not just at the moment of creation.

Day by day, You’re shaping me into Your likeness.

No, You’re not finished with me yet…

but You know how far I’ve come.
