Pray this Lazaroo in grateful trust:

“Dear friend…”
(3 John 1:5)

Not every friend is dear, Jesus.

Some of them are more like acquaintances.
Others I know well…maybe too well! 😉

There are those who used to be dear

but have grown distant.

With others I’ve had a falling out.

I would say their fault.
They would say mine.

I’m painfully aware that even those I now consider good friends

may not stay that way.

But You, O God!

are my Forever Friend.
True…without end.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed expectation:

“I am in torment within…”
(Lamentations 1:20)

That’s the best way to start this New Year, isn’t it, Jesus?

The last thing I need to do is blunder into this first month

thinking today is just like the day before
this year is just like the last.

It isn’t.

If I put my hope in You alone

turning my back on every sin that has crippled me in the past

this year

can be the best of my life.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…Jesus Christ…will be with us in…love.”
(2 John 1:3)

That’s how I want You to be with me, Jesus!

That’s how I want to be with You.

You…Are Pure Love.

Of course, there’s a fierce side of You, too.

Because pure love isn’t weak.

It’s strong, robust, powerful, formidable.

When called for – which isn’t all that rare –

it has the capacity to be ferocious –

in defense of those You love

and to arouse in them fear, wonder, awe

worship.

Pray this Lazaroo in fearless confidence:

“…they have growled at him.”
(Jeremiah 2:15)

I’ve been growled at too, Jesus.

But not by lions.

Of course, Jeremiah wasn’t talking about lions either!

He was referring to the enemies of Your people.

It’s no fun to get growled at.

The next step is to get bitten
then devoured.

So when these lions at my heels start in with their threatening sounds

I’ll quickly turn to the Lion of Judah.

You.

Now and forever
King of the Jungle.

Pray this Lazaroo with deepest reverence:

“…your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.”
(1 John 2:12)

Yours is the Name, Jesus!

The Name above every name.

Some of us know it –

well…in our limited way.
To the degree humans beings can.

Others know of Your Name…

but that’s about it.

They either don’t believe it

or don’t know what to do with it.

There’s a lot I don’t know too, LORD…

but I know enough to pray in Your Name
right now.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…there is no end to their treasures.”
(Isaiah 2:7)

At least that’s how it seems, Jesus.

Some of the world’s worst people
seem to have more than their share of the best.

While some of the world’s best people
seem to experience more than their share of the worst.

But the operative word is:

“seems.”

What seems a certain way to me

is seldom – if ever – the case.

You alone know what’s really going on.

And I trust You.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the only true God:

“…there were also false prophets among the people…”
(2 Peter 2:1)

Always have been, Jesus.

Way back in the day…
all the way to this very moment.

Some of them have wanted so badly to hear from You

that they’ve ended up deceiving themselves

actually believing that what they’re spouting originated with You

instead of in the dark recesses of their deluded minds.

Others are fakes, charlatans, phonies.

They’re lying to the gullible
and they know it.

Spare me, Father!

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“My dove in the clefts of the rock…”
(Song of Songs 2:14)

Solomon is referring to his wife, Jesus

but what he says about doves is true.

They’re beautiful, gentle…vulnerable.

They hide in the clefts of the rock
to remain unseen by predators –

like foxes, dogs, bobcats, coyotes, weasels
…and man.

If that’s the case

please hide this dove in the clefts of the rock, Father!

and cover me there with Your hand.
and cover me there with Your hand.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“…your faith and hope are in God.”
(1 Peter 1:21)

Yes they are, Jesus!

You died on the cross to pay for my sins.
You rose from the dead, proving You’re God.

How could I not put all my faith and hope in You?

You’ve promised that because You live forever
so will I.

I’m counting on it!

I’ve put all my eggs in Your basket
staked everything I have on You –

and that’s why I’m filled with hope.
