He’d be out hunting

Y’know…

I’d just as soon not give any lions an excuse to growl
over my dead carcass.

I’m aware that Satan prowls about like a roaring lion

looking for someone to devour.

I’d just as soon that not be me.

There are a lot of ways to scale a wall, Jesus.

Some do it clumsily.
Many can’t do it at all.

But if I looked down from the top of the wall

and saw a battle-hardened warrior climbing toward me
fear would grip my heart.

That’s what Your people experienced when that army of locusts attacked –

the army You sent to punish them.

May You never!

have to do that to me.

Some people are short-term, Jesus.

You bring them into our lives to accomplish a task.
When it’s done…so are they.

Help me not think less of them!

They fulfilled Your purpose.
Then You sent them elsewhere.

Other people – praise Your holy Name!

are long-term.

I can count on them.

They’re here today
here tomorrow.

They become family –

through whom You accomplish great things

together.

But each of Your churches has a unique calling –

which is why You’ve planted each one.

Heavenly Father!

I know that’s true, Jesus.

But I also know I’m not tapping into its full force.

You promised I’d be able to do even greater things

than You did on earth.

I believe You!

But I have yet to see it.

Why?

It has to be for the same reason Your disciples fell short:

my lack of faith.

O God – You know I believe!

That’s a lot of holy ones, Jesus!

What a Day that’ll be.
Wrongs finally made right.

Angels? Yes, Sure.

But not only angels.

Those of us who’ve followed You, died and gone to heaven

will be coming with You and the angels, too.

But people like me? Holy?

Maybe not now, here on earth.
But in heaven, they’ll be like You.

And so will I.

Most of the time they’re right.

But no one is as Christian as You Are!

You know I’m in a battle against the forces of evil.

When necessary…

And I am SO grateful

that Your fire is hotter than theirs.

Every teacher hopes their words are more than heard.

They long for the truths they teach
to change the lives of their hearers.

May John, now in heaven, continue to experience great joy

as he looks down and watches me.
