Pray this Lazaroo in grateful anticipation:

“The Lord their God…will restore their fortunes.”
(Zephaniah 2:7)

When things were going well for me, Jesus, I loved it.

I thought it was always going to be that way.

Then I discovered:

It wasn’t.

My sins caused some of it – maybe all of it.

But it might have simply been
that You needed me to fight some of Your battles.

If my suffering is caused by sin, I’ve got to repent!

Either way, I long to live once more

under the spout
where Your glory comes out!

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“Who knows? God may yet relent…”
(Jonah 3:9)

Even after the prophet Jonah delivered Your declaration of doom, Jesus

Ninevah’s king rallied his people with the hope of Your mercy.

For good reason:
Your mercy is legendary!

Yes, You punish willful, stubbornly repetitive sin.

But it breaks Your heart when You have to do it.
You give us chance after chance after chance to repent.

Even after You pronounce judgment

there’s always hope that You will relent
if we change our wicked ways.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”
(Revelation 3:8)

When You’re the one who opens the door, Jesus

no one can shut it in my face.

Even when my strength wanes

may I always keep Your Word
and glorify Your Name.

So long as that’s true of me

may You keep opening doors.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.’ Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.”
(Daniel 3:6-7)

That was a no-brainer for everyone, Jesus.

Well…almost everyone.

There were a handful of Your people
who knew better.

May I always be numbered among that handful!

Pray this Lazaroo in peaceful trust:

“In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The Lord their God will care for them…”
(Zephaniah 2:7)

Ashkelon was one of the most secure, well-defended cities of its day, Jesus.

Those who lived there could sleep soundly

knowing they were protected by a huge wall on the land side
and by a high natural bluff on the side facing the sea.

But may I always remember:

Without Your protection, nobody is safe.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate dedication:

“…you have the brazen look of a prostitute; you refuse to blush with shame. Have you not just called to me: ‘‘My Father, my friend from my youth, will you always be angry? Will your wrath continue forever?’ This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can.”
(Jeremiah 3:3-5)

You never were much for empty words, were You, Jesus?

Weren’t then
aren’t now.

Nor am I.

I’ve heard too many broken promises
to make any to You.

Pray this Lazaroo in heart pounding love:

“Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.”
(Proverbs 4:4-6)

Look and see, Jesus!

I’m taking hold of Your words with all my heart
doing my best – always and forever –
to obey Your Word.

Give me wisdom!
Give me understanding!

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
(Colossians 2:2-3)

When I have You, Jesus

I’ve got it all.

Everything God has, You have –

because You’re God
and God has everything.

Speaking of which:

You have me!

I’ve given myself to You, body and soul
past, present and future
nothing held back!

Which means I will always have everything I need
because I will always, always, always have You.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“The Gershonites are to do all that needs to be done with these things…carrying or doing other work…This is the service of the Gershonite clans at the tent of meeting. Their duties are to be under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron, the priest.”
(Numbers 4:26-28)

Somebody had to do it, Jesus.

The Gershonites were it.

My guess?

To carry all those heavy items they had to be pretty strong.

When You assign me a job
You always equip me to do it.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words.”
(Malachi 2:17)

I don’t want to do that to You, Jesus!

In fact, I didn’t think I could.
I didn’t think You ever grew tired or weary.

But You don’t become weary from the mighty miracles You perform.

What wearies You is when I don’t do
what I say I’ll do.

You’re sick to death of empty words.

O God! Forgive me!

May I always – in Your strength –
keep my word to You.
