Learn from this bad example, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“If someone ventures a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can keep from speaking?”
(Job 4:2)

And so it begins to unravel, Jesus.

Job’s three friends were awesome
as long as they kept silent.

But now, Job’s friend Eliphaz can’t endure Job’s complaints without rebuking him.

Like Job, Eliphaz totally misreads what’s going on.
But that doesn’t stop him from giving his judgmental opinion.

How often have I done that, Father –

made a suffering person’s load heavier?

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful awe:

“…the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad…”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Out of 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 41,173 verses and 774,746 words

this is the only place in the Bible that mentions Sepharad, Jesus.

Where is it? Nobody knows.

Well, of course they knew where it was back then, but today?

Not so much.

Maybe Iran, Turkey, Iberia, even Spain.

Or not.

How awesome that such an obscure, forgettable place of exile

cannot hide Your love for Your scattered people.

Pray this Lazaroo in mind-blown adoration:

“…every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.”
(Hebrews 3:4)

We see, Jesus…

but we don’t see far enough.

I can tell when someone does something good –

delivers a speech
wins a race
cares for the vulnerable
accomplishes a difficult task
sets a record
paints a masterpiece
writes a book
sings a song
produces a show or a movie.

But do I remember that You’re the one who gave them those awesome, transformative gifts?

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“They will come trembling to the LORD and to his blessings…”
(Hosea 3:5)

What a fascinating juxtaposition, Jesus:

“trembling”…and “blessing.”

So as I look at this, here’s what I’m wondering:

Do You bless those who approach You with trembling?

Well, I know You bless everyone in ways beyond counting.

But do You reserve a special blessing for those
who tremble because they recognize more than most

Your greatness, majesty, wisdom, love and power?

Awesome God!
I come trembling!

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“I hope…”
(Philemon 1:22)

So do I, Jesus!

I have hopes very similar to Paul’s, when he wrote those words.

Like Paul, I envision being able to do some things that seem good to me

but I’m not certain they’re in Your plan.

Of course, You know what’s best.

I don’t.

What seems good to me may be bad…or second-best.
What seems bad to me may turn out to be awesome.

Help me fully, thankfully embrace whichever You choose.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will come trembling to the LORD…”
(Hosea 3:5)

That’s not a bad way to come to You, Jesus.

It sure beats coming to You full of pride.
It’s better than coming to You burning with anger.
It’s preferable to coming to You eaten up with doubt.

When I come to You with trembling

it’s because I realize how small I am
and how awesome You Are

how flawed and sinful I am
and how perfect, righteous and holy You Are.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…the kingdom he promised those who love him…”
(James 2:5)

When You make a promise, Jesus

You keep it.

Though inadequately…I do love You!

That means the kingdom You promised

is mine.

Wow.

I don’t know what it will look like.

I’m not even sure what all it means.

But this I do know about You:

Whatever glorious, awesome, mind-blowing grandeur I can imagine

You will surpass.

That should get me through these rough patches in the meantime.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…before the appointed time arrives…”
(Zephaniah 2:2)

Thanks for the reminder, Jesus –

there is an appointed time.

I’m not some pebble haphazardly bumping down the mountainside.

I have appointments

set by You

that I cannot break.

Nor do I want to!

They’re key milestones along my path.

Get me ready me for them!

Especially for that final appointment on this earth

the one with death

that will usher me into an eternity of new, awesome appointments

forever with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with wisdom:

“Then King Solomon swore by the LORD…”
(1 Kings 2:23)

Powerful, Jesus.

But not always wise.

Not something I want to do thoughtlessly

on the spur of the moment
just to impress the people I’m with
to make my point.

It’s a serious, solemn, awesome thing to invoke Your Name –

the Name above every name
the Name before which every knee will bow.

No wonder You made it one of your Ten Commandments

not to misuse Your Name!
