Rejoice! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Besides Asahel, nineteen of David’s men were found missing. But David’s men had killed three hundred and sixty Benjamites who were with Abner. They took Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb at Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and arrived at Hebron by daybreak.”
(2 Samuel 2:30-32)

The battle aftermath, Jesus.

Losses on both sides.
Pain. Deep mourning.

Still, one the clear victor.

As always, the one You chose.

Because of You
that’s me.

Pray this Lazaroo in eye-opened understanding:

These are the nations the Lord left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan (he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience)…”
(Judges 3:1-2)

That answers a ton of questions, Jesus!

I want all my problems to go away.

You, however, want me to become a seasoned warrior.

In my preferred problem-free world

that’s not likely to happen.

Be greatly encouraged as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…since you are going through the same struggle…”
(Philippians 1:30)

I’m not alone, am I, Jesus?

Not only are You with me every step

but there are countless others

battling the flesh and the devil
in the exact same ways I am.

They say, “Misery loves company.”

But that’s not why I love knowing
I’m not the only one.

It’s because when I see them winning their fight

it’s proof!

that You’re able to do the same for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by David’s men.”
(2 Samuel 2:17)

You determine the outcome of every battle, Jesus!

The size of each army doesn’t matter.

The one You declare the victor

is the one who will win.

Not some of the time.
Not most of the time.
Every time.

How many more battles will I face, Father?

It doesn’t matter, does it?

So long as I faithfully, passionately follow You

I’ll prevail in every one.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“The battle that day was very fierce…”
(2 Samuel 2:17)

I’ve been in some fierce battles myself, Jesus –

though not, I’m sure, of the same kind
as the armies of Joab and Abner.

Still, my battles were a big deal to me.

But even more importantly
I know they were a big deal to You, as well

because You love me.

I can’t tell You how much that means to me, LORD!

Thank You for Your amazing heart
for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…the hand of the LORD was against them to defeat them…”
(Judges 2:15)

I can’t imagine a worse position, Jesus!

It’s hard enough to win – under any circumstance.

But to enter a battle knowing You’re against me?

Utterly useless. Fruitless. Worthless.
The very definition of pointless.

The only battles I want to fight are for You, in You

not against You.

Please, LORD!

Show me what I have to do to get on Your side
and never leave it.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Joab…and David’s men went out and met them at the pool of Gibeon.”
(2 Samuel 2:13)

This was a showdown, Jesus.

Mana a mano.
Shootout at the OK Corral.

Hundreds of brave, valiant soldiers were about to die.

Was there a better way to settle this?

Absolutely.

All they had to do was obey You.

But half of them wouldn’t
so the other half had no choice.

Give me the courage to fight

but always on Your side.

Strap on your armor as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
(2 Timothy 2:3)

So much for pacifism, huh, Jesus?

You haven’t called me to join a country club.
You’ve called me to serve in Your army.

This life is a battle.

If I want to win, I can’t sit back and watch.
I’ve got to fight.

Confession?

Sometimes I get battle-weary.
I want to call “Time out!”

But that’s not gonna happen, is it?

The moment I let down my guard
I lose.
