Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“The land by the sea…will belong to the remnant of the people of Judah…”
(Zephaniah 2:6-7)

You’re amazing Jesus!

You take land away from its sinning inhabitants
and give it to Your obedient people.

And not just any land, either!
Beautiful, highly prized waterfront land!

But of course, as Creator of all lands

that’s Your right.

May I always live before You in such a way

that You are happy to give me new lands
and never take any of it away!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes behind your veil are doves. Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from the hills of Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing. Each has its twin; not one of them is alone.”
(Songs of Songs 4:1-2)

No missing teeth!

This cracks me up, Jesus…

and teaches me to be grateful

for those You’ve placed in my life.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:9-11)

You’ve given me eternal life, Jesus!

But I’m bound to such limited understanding
during my time on this earth.

Teach me, I beg You:

to walk in humble gratitude
by faith.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“The land by the sea will become pastures…”
(Zephaniah 2:6)

Sounds good, Jesus.

Pastures are beautiful, pleasant places.

But to stop with that thought is to miss the point.

Land by the sea is extremely expensive.
There’s only so much of it.

It’s in high demand
because everyone wants to build a house there.

Which means that the land You’re referring to will revert to pasture

after the homes there – populated by disobedient people –

have been utterly destroyed.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest respect:

“…Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?’ Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.’ Then John consented.”
(Matthew 3:13-15)

This is absolutely beautiful, Jesus.

For You to lower Yourself, doing what You didn’t have to do
to set a righteous example for me?

That makes me want to choose You
all over again.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…in answer to your prayers.”
(Philemon 1:22)

Answered prayer is a beautiful thing, Jesus!

It rewards my hope in You.
It draws the two of us together.
It further builds my faith
It gives me cause to praise You to others.

It brings me back to You
with gratitude, love, thanksgiving, worship

and more requests!

May I never overlook or ignore any prayer You’ve answered!

Show me, Holy Spirit!

So I will be prompted and re-prompted
to hold high Your Mighty Name!

Aim higher, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He rebuilt it, roofing it over…”
(Nehemiah 3:15)

Nobody else added a roof to the gate he was repairing, Jesus.

Only Shallun.

From this we can infer that it wasn’t something that had to be done.

Shallun thought it would be a good idea.

So he took the extra time
did the extra work
incurred the extra expense

to make the Fountain Gate unique, beautiful, desirable.

What an inspiration, Father!

May I always and forever do more than expected…for You.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…he carved cherubim on the walls.”
(2 Chronicles 3:7)

Sounds beautiful, Jesus.

Had to be impressive.

But give me the real cherubim – Your holy angels! – any day.

Your Hebrew Name Yahweh Saoboth means:

“God of the Angels”

Although they do most of their work while remaining invisible

they appear when You tell them to
deliver messages, execute judgments
and scare the living daylights out of people.

You’ve assigned one or more of them to protect each of Your people…

including me.

Pray this Lazaroo in warm-hearted gratitude:

“…all their glory is like the flowers of the field…”
(1 Peter 1:24)

I know field flowers don’t last long, Jesus

but as they raise their heads under Your bright sun
gently nodding under a passing breeze

they sure are beautiful.

So I’m grateful.

Whatever glory I gain on this earth –

though transitory –

is nevertheless a gift from You.

I don’t deserve it
but I appreciate it.

It’s a sweetener in the sometimes bitter tea of life

on this sin-cursed earth.

Pray this Lazaroo with outrageous adoration:

“Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. “
(1 Timothy 2:5-6)

Those last two words, Jesus:

all people.”

Not merely the rich, famous or powerful.

all people.”

Not just deacons, elders and pastors.

all people.”

Not only the beautiful, talented and likable.

all people.”

You gave Yourself as a ransom

for poor people, nobodies and powerless
waiters, stockbrokers and nurses
ugly people, clumsy and obnoxious

and for me! – the least deserving of

all people.”
