Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“’I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.’ And he said to me, ‘This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.’”
(Zechariah 5:2-3)

What a dramatic way to reveal this timeless truth, Jesus:

You hate thievery and lying.

Therefore, those who engage in those behaviors

will be banished from Your Presence.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.”
(Jonah 3:8)

Why do we find it so hard, Jesus

to give up the things that break Your heart?

You’re not trying to cheat us out of having a good time!

You’re protecting us from the thoughts, words and behaviors
that will destroy our lives.

Forgive me, LORD

for being so slow to give up
what will take me down.

Pray this Lazaroo with a fervent spirit

“The river gates are thrown open…”
(Nahum 2:6)

When Ninevah’s river gates were opened, Jesus

their city was flooded.

The very thing that had been a blessing to them

became their undoing.

Are there areas in my life that carry that risk, Father?

People, work, sports, foods, entertainment, behaviors –

given to me as blessings from You

that I might misuse, turning them into self-inflicted harm?

Absolutely.
Every one of them.

Help me enjoy Your blessings in the right way!

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered, grateful reflection:

“Your wickedness will punish you…”
(Jeremiah 2:19)

There’s a reason why You forbid me to do certain things, Jesus!

It’s not because You’re a kill-joy.
It’s not because You don’t want me to have a good time.

It’s certainly not because You don’t love me
don’t long to see me experience life to the fullest.

It’s because there are thoughts, words and actions

that carry their own terrible punishment.

Out of pure love You tell me:

Don’t go there.

Pray this Lazaroo in zealous love:

“…it is the gift of God…”
(Ephesians 2:8)

That’s what my salvation is, Jesus –

an undeserved, unmerited, outrageous gift.

The people I live and work with would all pitch in with a passionate

“Amen!”

As do I.

The thoughts with which I wrestle
the words that slip out

my countless inexcusable behaviors
the actions I should’ve taken but didn’t

testify that my home in heaven is a miscarriage of justice

and the highest proof
of Your costly, loving mercy.
