Go to school as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The king put Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab’s position and replaced Abiathar with Zadok the priest. Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him, ‘Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else.’”
(1 Kings 2:35-36)

Solomon was just following his daddy’s orders, Jesus.

King David knew what was necessary
to firmly establish his son’s throne.

I’m ready and willing to follow Your orders, Father!

Command me.
I’ll obey.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“’May the guilt of their blood rest on the head of Joab and his descendants forever. But on David and his descendants, his house and his throne, may there be the Lord’s peace forever.’ So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and struck down Joab and killed him, and he was buried at his home out in the country.”
(1 Kings 2:33-34)

Joab got away with murder, Jesus…

for awhile.

But this reminds me that I must confess my sins

forsake them

and do only what is right!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“So Benaiah entered the tent of the Lord and said to Joab, ‘The king says, “Come out!”’ But he answered, ‘No, I will die here.’ Benaiah reported to the king, ‘This is how Joab answered me.’ Then the king commanded Benaiah, ‘Do as he says.’”
(1 Kings 2:30-31)

Why did Joab want to die in Your tent, Jesus?

Was it to be close to You?

Can’t say as I blame him.

When I die
I want to be as close to You as possible.

Take each step of your life in faith-filled trust, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“So Benaiah entered the tent of the Lord and said to Joab, ‘The king says, “Come out!”’ But he answered, ‘No, I will die here.’”
(1 Kings 2:30)

Joab deserved to die, Jesus.

But so do I!
We’ve all sinned against You.

Joab wanted to die in Your tent.

So do I, LORD –
to be ushered into heaven in Your Presence!

I’m not afraid to die.

Just hold me real close
during whatever method You choose to get me there.

Pray this Lazaroo with a learning heart:

“King Solomon was told that Joab had fled to the tent of the Lord and was beside the altar. Then Solomon ordered Benaiah son of Jehoiada, ‘Go, strike him down!’”
(1 Kings 2:29)

Joab was a powerful man, Jesus – the head of Israel’s army.

Solomon’s father David had tried to remove him, to no avail.
So he counseled his son Solomon to do it.

How did Solomon succeed when his father couldn’t?

You. Only You.
It was Your time.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.”
(1 Kings 2:25)

Adonijah was Solomon’s brother, Jesus

but for his conniving attempt to overthrow his younger brother –

whom You anointed king –

he paid with his life.

The first time Adonijah proclaimed himself king

Solomon warned him never to pull a stunt like that again.

But in Adonijah’s case
forewarned was not forearned.

Dear LORD:

Help me learn from this hard example!
