Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“The woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’”
(Genesis 3:13)

Who among us cannot identify with those words, Jesus?

Not one.

Every human being on earth old enough to know right from wrong

knows what it is to be deceived by Satan
and to give in to temptation.

I’d do well to remember that my soul has an enemy and a name:

Satan!

So that in the strength of Your superior Name

I can tell him:

“NO!”

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD Loves by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.”
(Malachi 2:11)

What a heartbreak, Jesus!

Jewish men were divorcing their Jewish wives
and marrying idol-worshiping foreign women

in order to gain economic advantage in their trade with other countries.

How could they do such a thing?
These men worshiped an idol of their own, didn’t they?

Money.

May I never – ever! – compromise my walk with You

in order to line my pockets.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“The LORD will…again choose Jerusalem.”
(Zechariah 2:12)

It’s devastating to be rejected by You, Jesus!

Of course, that only happens
when we’ve first rejected You.

Justice demands that our rejection of You

should result in our permanent rejection.

But Your mercy triumphs over justice!

When we have been humbled
when we have repented
when we have returned to You with all our hearts

after You have disciplined us less than our sins deserve

oh, hallelujah! You’ll choose us again!

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit.”
(Haggai 2:19)

That’s no accident, is it, Jesus?

It’s an unmistakable pattern that points to You.

Sometimes – for Your own perfect reasons – You keep my life fruitless

to teach…to get my attention…to humble me.

Oh, but I love those words, “Until now!”

When I’ve learned my lesson
when You’ve got my attention
when I’ve been humbled

the fruit will come!

Pray this Lazaroo in simple trust:

“…perhaps you will be sheltered…”
(Zephaniah 2:3)

As promises go, Jesus

this one leaves more than a little to be desired!

I like the definite promises that begin with words like, “You will!

Those that begin with the word, “perhaps” scare me.

What if I do everything You command

but don’t get what I want?

Oh.

You’re teaching me humility, aren’t You?
You’re also teaching me obedience for its own reward

while leaving the results
in Your loving hands.

Let realization dawn, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The stones of the wall will cry out…”
(Habakkuk 2:11)

I’m guessing this is poetic language, Jesus

though if anyone can get stones to talk
and understand their language

it’s You!

Still…I’ve entered places for the first time

and felt something I couldn’t define.

Each home, each building has a certain feel, doesn’t it?

Maybe its stones, bricks, plaster, shiplap
are crying out!

If the walls of my home could talk, Father

what would they say about me?

Stand corrected, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“It is decreed…”
(Nahum 2:7)

I can issue decrees all day long, Jesus –

as can every king, president, prime minister, chairman
judge, commissioner, CEO, leader and person on earth.

But not one blessed thing will happen

unless YOU decree it!

Sometimes we get pretty full of ourselves

carried away by our titles, positions, responsibilities
all too often forgetting to Whom we’re responsible:

You.

When we fail to check in with the Boss of all bosses

our puny decrees fall flatter than a flitter.

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…it is ruined…”
(Micah 2:10)

I’ve said that about some things, Jesus.

I’ve also said it about some relationships.

But You have a way of taking what I think is totally, irreparably ruined

and either completely restoring it
or replacing it with something far better!

I absolutely love that about You!

No matter what happens

with You, there’s always a New Day.
There’s always hope!

Nothing is beyond Your repair!

Nothing is beyond Your improvement!

Not even me.

Pray this Lazaroo in pure trust:

“The Ninevites believed God.”
(Jonah 3:5)

Every time I take You at Your Word, Jesus…

every time I decide to act on it
every time I follow through with 100% obedience

good things happen!

Well…they don’t just “happen.”

YOU make them happen!

In this case, You sent Jonah to tell the Ninevites that You were going to destroy their city because of their many sins.

When they believed You and repented, however,
You spared them.

O God!
Spare me!
