Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…do the things you did at first.”
(Revelation 2:5)

I remember how passionate I was when I gave myself completely to You, Jesus.

I was all-out, no-holds-barred.
You were my Everything.

But it’s hard to maintain that level of emotion

day-in, day-out
month after month
year after year.

I’m ashamed to say I haven’t.

You’re not telling me to feel the way I did at first, though.

You’re telling me to do what I did back then.

Got it.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…he knows what lies in darkness…”
(Daniel 2:22)

That’s so comforting, Jesus!

You’re able to protect me
from those lurking in shadows to harm me.

But it’s terrifying news for those who live in darkness.

One of the reasons they’ve chosen the gloom
is to hide what they’re doing.

O God!

Since their evil deeds are in plain sight before You
give them every incentive to

stop!

do an about face

and with Your help

turn their lives around.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“They are…wandering stars…”
(Jude 1:13)

Not good, Jesus.

There’s a difference between a lost star
and one that wanders.

Lost stars want to find their way back home.

Wandering stars have no such desire.

All they know

is they want to be somewhere else
doing something else.

They have no heart for You or anyone else.

All they care about is themselves.

I’ve been a lost star, Father…

thank You for finding me!

But may I never again wander.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…the house of Israel is not willing to listen…”
(Ezekiel 3:7)

I know they will one day, Jesus!

After all, You’re their Messiah.
Plus, You’ve said they will.

But until someone’s ready to listen

it doesn’t do much good to talk, does it?

How much of my life have I spent saying important things

to peopleĀ who didn’t want to hear it?

Still…when I see someone headed for a plunge over the cliff

what else can I do?

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“…your faithfulness to the truth…”
(3 John 1:3)

It’s hard to be faithful to the truth, Jesus

when the truth is painful
when the truth is hard

when the truth has to be delivered

to someone who doesn’t want to hear it.

At such times, many people fudge the truth

dress up the truth
tell only part of the truth.

Give me the courage to tell the truth

the whole truth
and nothing but the truth

so help me God.

Face your vulnerability, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I called to my allies but they betrayed me.”
(Lamentations 1:18)

Allies are there just in case, Jesus.

I make promises to them
and they to me.

It might be months or years before I need them

but when calamity comes
that’s when I call on them for help.

Only then do I find out whether I have an ally

or a betrayer.

The only one who knows beforehand is You, Father!

Please.
I beg You!

Protect me.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted gratitude:

“…God the Father…”
(2 John 1:3)

O God!

You are my Father.

But not mine alone.

You’re the Father of us all.

Some of us recognize You

some of us don’t.

But that doesn’t change the fact that it is You who have made us.

We didn’t make ourselves.

My life came through my parents

but not from my parents.

You chose me.
You made me.

All my allegiance I now pledge to You!

In Jesus’ Name

Amen.

Pray this Lazaroo with unquenchable longing:

“…the spring of living water…”
(Jeremiah 2:13)

That’s who You are, Jesus…

and this thirsty pilgrim is grateful beyond words.

You’ve promised that because I’ve chosen to put my faith in You

my soul will never thirst again

my spirit will enjoy the continual refreshing
that only You can provide –

with the caveat that once I’ve tasted and seen how good You are

I will always want more

driven to drink deeply of You

again

and again

and again.

Let the Light dawn, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…whoever hates his brother…walks around in the darkness…”
(1 John 2:11)

It’s bad enough to hate my brother or sister in You, Jesus

and be stuck in the darkness.

But You’re telling me it doesn’t stop there, Holy Spirit.

You’re explaining that to hate one of Your children –

no matter how weak or obnoxious

is to try to navigate the darkness

without a light.

There’s a whole lot of stumbling, falling, disappointment and pain.

That certainly explains a lot.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered assessment:

“You have abandoned your people…”
(Isaiah 2:6)

It certainly seems like that during some seasons, Jesus

and in reality, You do abandon Your people
for a time.

When we repeatedly sin against You

You withdraw.

It’s one thing when we try and fail

repent, get up and try again.

But it’s an entirely different matter

when we willingly, knowingly, deliberately reject You.

That’s when You back off for a while

and let us stew
in our own foul juices.
