Pray this Lazaroo…in faith:

“Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?”
(Job 3:11)

Job was in agony, Jesus!

wishing he’d never survived that shortest
and longest of all journeys

the trip from the safety of mother
to first breath in the outside world.

But he was wrong.

His suffering was short-lived.
You blessed him more at last than at first.

If only mothers about to abort their babies

could trust You to do the same.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.”
(Titus 1:16)

Words matter to You, Jesus

but they’re not enough.

If what I do doesn’t measure up to what I say

then at best, the words I speak
are nothing more than fool’s gold

at worst, they’re a lie.

Tellingly, when I know what I should say

I can’t plead ignorance.
I’m left with no excuse.

To overpromise and underperform never works

especially with You.

Pray this Lazaroo…in awe:

“…he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen…”
(Esther 2:17)

What a moment for Esther, Jesus!

And what a moment for her people, the Jews.

Little did either of them know You were behind it, Father

that there was coming a day when she would be needed
to save Your chosen nation from annihilation.

How many of the moments of my life have strategic future implications?

Knowing You, I’d have to guess…

all of them.

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.”
(2 Timothy 2:6)

No argument there, Jesus!

But there’s a world of difference between what should happen
and what does happen.

Most of my upsets and disappoints in life

stem from things that seem to me should happen
but don’t

from things I thought needed to take place
but never did.

That is, until I remember that You

do absolutely – 100% –
of all things well.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep gratitude:

“Next to them, repairs were made by men from Gibeon and Mizpah…”
(Nehemiah 3:7)

It feels good, Jesus…

to look over and see someone working as hard as I am
doing their share.

It’s encouraging even when I could have eventually finished it all myself

but it’s the difference between success and failure
when the task is bigger than either of us alone.

Thank You Father!

for every person You’ve sent – and will send –
to joyfully serve You together.

Pray this Lazaroo in unpolluted faith:

“…that we may live…in all…holiness.”
(1 Timothy 2:2)

I’m not trying to be flippant, Jesus, just honest:

I struggle to live in partial holiness.

Living in all holiness feels unreachable for me.

But that’s the goal, isn’t it?
I have to strive for it.

Well, one thing’s clear:

I can strive all I want in my own strength
and fail.

My only hope for success is to learn how to strive in the strength

that is Yours alone.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…appointing Levites twenty years of age and older to supervise the building…”
(Ezra 3:8)

I can only imagine how this went over with an experienced, 40 year-old carpenter, Jesus –

having someone half his age
who had never hammered a nail

“supervise” him.

But a gifted supervisor can alleviate those concerns by being

kind
respectful
humble
encouraging
appreciative

regardless of age or lack of experience.

May I be willing to treat others
the way I want them to treat me.

Pray this Lazaroo with clear-eyed humility:

“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:9)

I’ve seen some lawless ones running around, Jesus.

It’s good to know where that comes from.

The devil might not make them do it

but they sure are buying what he’s selling.

Of course, it’s easy to recognize that behavior in others

rather than deal with it in the face of that person
who looks back at me in the mirror.

Be aware as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He assigned…foremen over them to keep the people working.”
(2 Chronicles 2:18)

It seems a crying shame that this is necessary, Jesus.

Why can’t we just do our jobs without someone standing over us?

Obviously, not all of us can.

Most of us don’t do what out boss expects.
We do what our boss inspects.

If only we’d use as our incentive to do good work

the fact that You are noting
everything we think, say and do.
