Pray this Lazaroo in passionate commitment:

“King Solomon made for himself the carriage; he made it of wood from Lebanon. Its posts he made of silver, its base of gold. Its seat was upholstered with purple, its interior inlaid with love.”
(Song of Songs 3:9-10)

What was the costliest ingredient in Solomon’s carriage, Jesus?

It wasn’t the wood, silver, purple or gold, was it?

It was the love.

May the interior of my life – the heart of me – my very being!

always be inlaid with love.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
(1 Peter 2:5)

What are “spiritual sacrifices,” Jesus?

They have to be something I do – or don’t do –

with my own spirit.

What does my spirit want that isn’t best for my relationship with You?

I’ll give that up.

What does my spirit not want to do, that You desire?

That…I will do.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful trust:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7-8)

We want to focus on what we think are the positives, don’t we, Jesus?

But there’s a time for

tearing
silence
hate
war

The key is to look to You for our direction

at all times.

Pray this Lazaroo in stark realization:

“But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.”
(James 2:18-19)

My faith and my actions.

They’re not separate, are they, Jesus?

If I have faith
my life will show it.

If I don’t have faith
my life will show it.

My actions reveal whether or not I truly believe

in You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.”
(Proverbs 3:24-26)

Such is your promise to those who drink deeply of Your wisdom, Jesus

who seek to know and understand You and Your Word

with the full passion of their inmost being.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted commitment:

“…we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, ‘So I declared on oath in my anger, “They shall never enter my rest.”’”
(Hebrews 4:2-3)

Hearing Your Word is no good to me, Jesus

if I don’t believe it.

But I do! Thank God, I do!

Pray this Lazaroo with fully-warned fervor:

“Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads. I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.”
(Psalm 7:15-17)

Not me, Jesus.

I refuse to harm anyone –

even those who richly deserve it –

because so do I.

Rather, Your mercy inspires me to sing Your praises

for the rest of my life!

Pray this Lazaroo with eternal perspective:

“Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus…”
(Philemon 1:1)

Wow, Jesus.

The way Paul puts that –

not a prisoner of Rome
but Your prisoner.

He makes a good point.

Had You not knocked him to the ground
revealed Yourself to him
and called him into Your service

he wouldn’t have been behind bars.

But then…

he wouldn’t have written 13 books of the New Testament
and been on his way to heaven.

Make me Your prisoner, Jesus!

…all the way Home.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go off into the wasteland and perish. The caravans of Tema look for water, the traveling merchants of Sheba look in hope. They are distressed, because they had been confident; they arrive there, only to be disappointed. Now you too have proved to be of no help…”
(Job 6:18-21)

That’s one of the toughest things You put me through, Jesus…

to let me find out the hard way
that the only one I can truly trust –

including myself –

is You.

Accept the honor, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good…”
(Titus 2:6-7)

I can’t just tell them how to behave, can I, Jesus?

I’ve got to show them what it looks like.

Of course, it’s a whole lot easier to point the way
than to lead the way.

But that’s only fair.

Because it’s a lot harder for them to follow my advice
than to nod with an indulgent smile
pretending to agree.
