Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…he preached the word to them.”
(Mark 2:2)

Oh, to have been there to hear You preach, Jesus!

I try to imagine what it must have been like…but I can’t.

You taught the Word like no one ever has or can

because You ARE The Word.

Many people believed You and followed You from that moment on.

But many others did not.

I can’t comprehend that level of blindness!

…until I remember how many times I’ve failed to obey.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt trust:

“Their condemnation has long been hanging over them…”
(2 Peter 2:3)

What a terrifying place to be in, Jesus!

…for those who are spiritually aware.

Of course, if I’m spiritually aware, I won’t land in such a place.

It’s only when I’m deaf, blind and dumb to spiritual reality

that I repeatedly make the kinds of decisions
that destine me for condemnation.

O God, my Redeemer and Protector:

May I ever remain
in Deep, Daily, Moment-by-Moment
1on1 relationship with You!

Be dumbfounded as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they are…faithless…”
(Romans 1:31)

That’s an insupportable state to be in, Jesus.

To have no faith in You is not only unintelligent.

It’s foolish.
It’s also blind, dumb, deaf, unfeeling, tasteless.
It’s unthinking and unthinkable.
It’s stubborn, hardhearted, hardheaded, mulish.

And those are their best traits.

A person who has no faith in You is giving up everything worthwhile

in exchange for everything that’s worthless.

A faithless man or woman can’t be followed, can’t be believed

can’t be trusted.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…they are senseless…”
(Romans 1:31)

Deeply troubling, Jesus…

because I’m thinking of two kinds of “sense.”

The first is earth’s five senses:

sight, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching.

The second is what is called “good sense” –

which is pretty close to wisdom

especially Biblical wisdom
the kind that comes from heaven.

Those consumed solely by their five senses

are blind, deaf, anosmic, ageusic, neuropathic
to things of the spirit

making them – in the worst possible way –

“senseless.”

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…even denying the sovereign Lord…”
(2 Peter 2:1)

How can they do that, Jesus?

They’d have to be blind not to recognize You!

Well, yeah.

That’s exactly what they are.

But not just spiritually blind –

also physically, mentally and emotionally –
blind as bats.

Actually, that’s an insult to bats.
They’re blinder.

It’s that word, “sovereign” that gets them, isn’t it?

Says You’re the Boss.

And of course, You Are

which leaves them no alternative
but to squeeze shut their eyes.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep gratitude:

“…whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

I know this means I’m special to You, Jesus…

but I’m a little shaky on being the “apple of Your eye.”

It means I’m the very center of Your eye, doesn’t it?

It’s the dark part, the pupil –
the part that determines how much light gets in.

If no light enters someone’s eye

they’re blind, they can’t see.

In other words…

I’m really, really special to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with eyes that see:

“…my beautiful one…”
(Song of Songs 2:13)

I’ve been told, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” Jesus

but ultimately there’s only One who beholds:

You.

The rest of us don’t really see – not the way You do.

We focus on the wrong things
ignore, overlook, misunderstand the right things.

There’s so much more to each person You’ve created

than we can see.

O God!

Open the eyes of my heart.

Enable me to see
what You see.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…whoever hates his brother…does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.”
(1 John 2:11)

It’s the pitch black darkness of hate that blinds them, Jesus!

The non-haters can see clearly what’s happening
but the hater doesn’t have a clue.

The hater believes he is fully justified to despise everything about the person he hates

unable to see the myriad of good qualities You’ve built into them.

Fill me with love, LORD!
Open my eyes.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Once you were alienated from God…”
(Colossians 1:21)

Yes I was, Jesus

in a place of darkness.

Without You, the Light of the World, shining into me

I was guessing, fumbling, stumbling blind

But when I placed my faith in You alone as my Savior

the lights came on!

I still have questions. There is much I don’t understand.

But in You are all the answers
which You will fully reveal to me

in Your way
in Your time.

Pray this Lazaroo overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…not see the first rays of dawn.”
(Job 3:9)

Some people never see the first rays of dawn, Jesus.

They’re fast asleep.

Others could if they wanted to

but they’re busy inside.

Still others can’t see the sun’s first rays or anything else

because they’re blind.

Those first rays are precious, Jesus!

May I never take them for granted.

They signify that You’ve granted me one more day

to serve You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
