Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished…”
(Romans 3:24-25)

You’ve left a countless number of my sins unpunished Jesus.

Your sacrifice on the cross

has set free this unworthy –

but profoundly grateful –

sinner saved by grace.

Pray this Lazaroo in Holy Spirit-guided introspection:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims! The crack of whips, the clatter of wheels, galloping horses and jolting chariots! Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears!”
(Nahum 3:1-3)

The city of Ninevah had it all, Jesus…

everything they needed to wreak havoc
on the weaker peoples around them.

How am I equipping myself, Father?

Is it all about being a blessing to others
or only about making things better

for myself?

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“The Lord said, ‘What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.’”
(Genesis 4:10-12)

What have I done, Jesus?

I deserve to be a restless wanderer…

but in Your stunning mercy to me through the cross

I rest in Your loving arms!

Pray this Lazaroo in humble gratitude:

“Now Cain said to his brother Abel, ‘Let’s go out to the field.’ While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is your brother Abel?’
‘I don’t know,’ he replied. ‘Am I my brother’s keeper?’”
(Genesis 4:8-9)

Cain struck out, Jesus:

He deceived his brother.
He killed his brother.
He lied to God.

But I’ve struck out more times than Cain.

What can wash away my sins?
Nothing but Your blood, my Jesus.

Pray this Lazaroo with compassion:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!”
(Nahum 3:1)

That’s what got to You the most, wasn’t it, Jesus?

The victims.

Those who lost their lives due to the monstrous cruelty embedded in Nineveh’s culture.

Those who lost loved ones, grieving without relief.
Broken promises, broken homes, broken lives.

It was all about the victims then

it’s all about the victims now.

You’re the same – yesterday, today and forever.

Our suffering
continues to break Your heart!

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…when David heard about this, he said, ‘I and my kingdom are forever innocent before the Lord concerning the blood of Abner son of Ner. May his blood fall on the head of Joab…”
(2 Samuel 3:28-29)

The thing is, Jesus

Your Name is EL DEAH.

You know.

Joab was, indeed, guilty.

The day came

when he paid with his life.

May I never forget Your Name, EL DEAH!

not only to waste no time lying to You

but also to rest assured that when I’m mistreated

You know.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“’Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.’ ‘The poison of vipers is on their lips.’ ‘Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.’ ‘Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know.’ ‘There is no fear of God before their eyes.’”
(Romans 3:13-18)

That’s what You see when You look at this world, Jesus.

It has to break Your heart!

May that never be what You see

when You look at me.

Pray this Lazaroo with informed caution:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder…”
(Nahum 3:1)

People would expect a city full of plunder

to be in pretty good shape, Jesus!

But it’s the blood they’ve shed to get it
the lies they’ve told to keep it

that earn Your pronouncement of woe.

When You say, “Woe!”

I’d better say, “Woah!”

and quickly repent
stop harming others
stop telling lies

or I’ll discover firsthand
just how terrible Your woes can be.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Joab…sent messengers after Abner…But David did not know it. Now when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into an inner chamber, as if to speak with him privately. And there, to avenge the blood of his brother Asahel, Joab stabbed him in the stomach, and he died.”
(2 Samuel 3:26-27)

Joab was a mighty warrior and general, Jesus

but he had an ugly, murderous streak.

Rid me of everything You find in me

that would bring dishonor to Your Name!

Shudder as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies…”
(Nahum 3:1)

Which is worse, Jesus –

a city full of blood
or a city full of lies?

They’re both horrible…

but the worst has to be a city full of lies.

Even when there’s blood

if people tell the truth
you
know where you stand.

But with lies

you know nothing.

You don’t know which end is up
who to trust – if anyone.

Great God Almighty!

Make me a person of truth!

Please spare me

from those whose mouths
are full of lies.
