Pray this Lazaroo with determination:

“In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.”
(1 Timothy 3:8-10)

All these things really matter to You, don’t they, Jesus?

That’s why they matter to me.

May I live out each day
the holy life to which I’m called!

Pray this Lazaroo with limitless faith:

“…the boy sat on her lap until noon, and then he died. She called her husband and said, ‘Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return.’ ‘Why go to him today?’ he asked. ’“It’s not the New Moon or the Sabbath.’ ‘That’s all right,’ she said.”
(2 Kings 4:20, 22-23)

He didn’t get it, Jesus.

It didn’t occur to Him that You could raise the dead.

How many times have I underestimated Your Power?

Please: Help me get it!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, ‘Here I am; you called me.’ Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place.”
(1 Samuel 3:8-9)

I haven’t heard Your Voice calling me by name in the night, Jesus.

So let me begin the conversation:

“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. ‘For whom am I toiling,’ he asked, ‘and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?’”
(Ecclesiastes 4:8)

I suspect this man’s work was his enjoyment, Jesus!

Some people like to play games.
Others like to watch shows.
Still others enjoy visiting with friends.

But some people get the most pleasure from their work.

Help me enjoy whatever You’ve called me to do!

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“Every high priest…is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God…”
(Hebrews 5:1-4)

You are amazing, Jesus!

You deliberately choose flawed people to honor
by calling them to do Your perfect work –

which means You can also work through me!

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Gehazi said, ‘She has no son, and her husband is old.’ Then Elisha said, ‘Call her.’ So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. ‘About this time next year,’ Elisha said, ‘you will hold a son in your arms.’ ‘No, my lord!’ she objected. ‘Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!’”
(2 Kings 4:14-16)

Some of us can’t believe how good You’re willing to be to us, Jesus!

But You’ve already given Your life for me.

Why wouldn’t You do amazing things for me…

and through me!

Pray this Lazaroo with eyes riveted on Jesus:

“In the middle of the night something startled the man; he turned—and there was a woman lying at his feet!”
(Ruth 3:8)

Ruth had broken protocol, Jesus.

It was not their custom to allow women in the threshing floor.

But Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi told her to do it

and as far as Ruth was concerned, that trumped their customs.

You honored it!
Naomi was right.

Give me the wisdom to know when to do what’s expected

and when You’ve called me
to take the road less traveled.

Awake! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, ‘We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!’”
(Isaiah 4:1)

Sin doesn’t end in triumph, Jesus

but in humiliation.

Satan packs all his pleasures into the first moments of my disobedience

then leaves me hurting, disgraced, bankrupt.

How many times do I have to see this outcome of temptation

before I reject it?

Pray this Lazaroo with wiser eyes:

“…all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves. Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:4-6)

So there’s a balance, isn’t there, Jesus?

Work to accomplish what You’ve called me to do
not to keep up with someone else.

But even so, You want me to work –
and not make others do my job.

Go and do likewise, after you pray this Lazaroo!

“One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there. He said to his servant Gehazi, ‘Call the Shunammite.’ So he called her, and she stood before him. Elisha said to him, ‘Tell her, “You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you?”’”
(2 Kings 4:11-13)

I love that Elisha did that, Jesus.

So do You.

You had prompted this Shunammite woman to be good to Elisha

so he wanted You to do something special for her!
