When I’ve done what I shouldn’t have, Jesus

sinning against You

when my sins have forced You to discipline me

bringing me pain, sorrow, suffering, excruciating regret

it can feel like You and I will never be close again
that I’ve forever lost the precious intimacy we had –

until, in repentance, I look up in happy, near disbelief

to realize You choose once again

to experience deep, daily, moment-by-moment

1on1 relationship with me.

Pray this Lazaroo with fiery determination:

“…sighing has become my daily food…”
(Job 3:24)

Job didn’t get it, Jesus.

He thought he had done everything right.

But then, in one horrible day, he lost it all.

Not knowing how proud You were of him
he concluded You had betrayed him.

But You hadn’t.

You chose Job to prove to Satan that no matter what happened to him

Job would never turn against You.

When I’m confronted with Satan’s temptation

may I too pass the test!

Pray this Lazaroo in flabbergasted wonder:

“…he browses among the lilies.”
(Song of Songs 2:16)

Solomon’s bride is speaking poetically, Jesus.

Solomon isn’t browsing among actual lilies.
He’s making love to his wife.

Literal language has its place

but it can go only so far.

There are some experiences in life that require poetry.

One of the greatest of those is Your love for me!

When I try to grasp the significance
of how Your perfection can choose me
flaws and all

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast hope:

“…the God of Abraham…”
(Exodus 3:16)

Abraham had flaws, Jesus.

He argued with You.

He was so afraid You wouldn’t protect him

that He told everyone his beautiful wife was his sister
and allowed her to be taken by another man to be his wife.

Twice.

But You chose him anyway

to be the founding father of Your great nation of Israel.

Like Abraham, I too am flawed, Father!

But You’ve chosen me anyway.
Use me for Your glory!

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

When people have this kind of spirit

all things are possible, Jesus!

Well…all things are always possible with You.

But You love it when someone does whatever is necessary
even when it’s outside their area of expertise.

So do I.

Next time You need something done
but there’s nobody skilled at doing it

I’ll give You my best
and trust You to train me.
