Pray this Lazaroo in total trust:

“Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.”
(Acts 2:43-45)

Were these the greatest days of Your Church, Jesus?

Was this the purest expression of what You had in mind
when You laid down Your life for us?

You’re the Same – yesterday, today and forever.

Great God:

Do it again!

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“To those who sold doves he said, ‘Get those out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!’ His disciples remembered that it is written: ‘Zeal for your house will consume me.’”
(John 2:16-17)

Does zeal for Your house consume me, Jesus?

It should.
I know it should.

I should care more about the place You have provided for me to worship

than I do about the house where I live.

You first.
Everything else second.

Always.

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting anticipation:

“Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shekaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs.”
(Nehemiah 3:29)

Shemaiah already had one job, Jesus –

and it wasn’t a “nothing” job.

Guarding the East Gate is a huge responsibility!

So is guarding any of Your Jerusalem gates.

But the East Gate is the one
through which You’ll enter Jerusalem
when You return to earth for Your Church!

If Shemaiah can carry out two crucial jobs for You simultaneously

So can I.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“…his works have been finished since the creation of the world…he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: ‘On the seventh day God rested from all his works.’”
(Hebrews 4:4-5)

You finished creating them, Jesus…

but they themselves weren’t finished!

You built into your heavenly bodies
an ever-evolving, ever-expanding
progression of Your glory

that stuns all who see.

What You started in motion continues to this very day

in this universe…on the earth…through Your Church…

in me.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up…”
(Jude 1:20)

This isn’t a suggestion, is it, Jesus?

It’s a command.

Apparently, getting spiritually stronger

isn’t something that’s going to happen to me
while I lie back and wait.

I’ve got to hit the spiritual gym:

Studying your Word
Praying
Forsaking my sin
Attending church services
Serving
Sharing my faith

Salvation? That’s free.

All I have to do is believe.

But if I truly believe

I’ve got to get to work.

Pray this Lazaroo on high alert:

“Many deceivers…”
(2 John 1:7)

It’s hard for me to believe how many deceivers there are, Jesus.

They’re everywhere –
in the places I least expect them.

Well…that’s what a deceiver is, isn’t it?

Spreading lies where I thought I would hear only truth.

I’m skeptical when I near the places liars usually gather.

But I dare not let down my guard anywhere.

Satan shows up in government…in court…at home…in church.

The straightedge of Your Word
is my only hope.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled determination:

“I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine?”
(Jeremiah 2:21)

When You drew me to Yourself and I asked you to be my Savior

You planted me in Your Church, Jesus!

But I confess:

I haven’t done nearly enough with what You’ve built into me!
I’m not giving You anything like the good return You deserve.

That has to change.

Now.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…without…disputing.”
(1 Timothy 2:8)

You’re not commanding Your Church to be only “yes people,” Jesus.

We’re allowed to disagree, to share alternative views
so long as they’re based on Your Word
and not mere opinion.

But what You forbid is disputing – argumentative disagreement –

the kind that is disrespectful, disruptive, disorderly.

Disputing destroys the unity of Your Church
which is so crucial to Your mission!

Show me how to respectfully offer a different view

while trusting You for the outcome.

Pray this Lazaroo with Spirit-led discernment:

“…according to their clans…”
(Numbers 3:39)

What’s my clan, Jesus?

My family of origin?
My circle of friends?
The people at work?
My neighbors?
My state?
My country?
My church?

Could I possibly have more than one clan?

Maybe…but why does any of that matter?

Well…because the people I’m with influence me, don’t they?

…and I them.

Show me who You want to make up my clan, Father!

…and help me leave every clan
injurious to my spiritual health.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel…”
(Galatians 2:14)

That’s when I’m forced to speak up, isn’t it, Jesus?

In a company, nation, church, community, project, group of friends

the first steps may seem right

but if over time there’s a blatant departure –

or a subtle one –

I can’t remain mute.

I have to speak up:

wisely, humbly, respectfully…
but firmly.

If I’m ignored, I have to keep trying

or get out.
