Pray this Lazaroo in total honesty:

“When I think my bed will comfort me…even then you frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions, so that I prefer strangling and death, rather than this body of mine. I despise my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone; my days have no meaning.”
(Job 7:13-16)

Why did you let Job speak to You like that, Jesus?

Because You knew how hard He had tried to please you

and how stunned he was
that You hadn’t protected him.

Help me remember why You did that

and how it ended.

Pray this Lazaroo with informed determination:

“Woe to you who live by the sea, you Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says, ‘I will destroy you’…”
(Zephaniah 2:5)

How does Your Word turn against me, Jesus?

It’s when I turn against Your Word, isn’t it?
That’s when utter destruction comes.

I’ll never turn against Your Word, Holy Father!

It’s a lamp to my feet
a light for my path
my comfort in great sorrow

my sure promise of eternal life.

Consider carefully, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him. Then he made love to his wife again, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. He named him Beriah, because there had been misfortune in his family.”
(1 Chronicles 7:22-23)

Ephraim was lost in grief, Jesus.

Even after You gave him a son in place of those who died
he rhymed his name with “misfortune.”

When I’m dealt a huge blow

please help me trust You
and move on!

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt gratitude:

“…the Lord of peace himself…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:16)

You Are That, Jesus:

My Peace!

You warned me that in this world I’d have trouble.

But then You comforted me with this promise:

“But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I need not be surprised when trouble comes.

You warned me it would.

But the good news is:

Trouble doesn’t have the power to rob me of Your peace!

“This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ezer and Elead were killed by the native-born men of Gath, when they went down to seize their livestock. Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him.
(1 Chronicles 7:21-22)

The loss of Ephraim’s livestock didn’t even register, Jesus

in comparison to the loss of his sons.

I’m sure he appreciated his relative’s attempts to comfort him

but the agony of this kind of tragedy
doesn’t disappear overnight.

There is a comfort

only You can give.

Pray this Lazaroo filled with enormous comfort:

“When you see the ark…follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.”
(Joshua 3:3-4)

Sometimes I wish I had a visible ark to follow, Jesus

so I’d know which way to go
since I’ve never been this way before.

But I have something better!

I have You, Holy Spirit!

You’re here, inside me.

If I truly listen for Your inner prompting

I’ll know my next step

which is all I need to know.

Get a grip! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves…”
(Song of Songs 3:1)

A bed may not be the best place to conduct a thorough search, Jesus. 😉

Perhaps she didn’t want to get out of bed.

Where am I snuggling down in a warm bed of sleepy comfort –

instead of diligently searching to achieve
those things You’ve called me to do?

If they’re out there somewhere in the dark and cold

help me haul out to find them.

Pray this Lazaroo in ever-expanding faith:

“…his forces are beyond number…”
(Joel 2:11)

This fills me with joy, Jesus!

We humans have come up with some pretty big numbers –

not that any of us can really count that high!

But still, we know what they represent. They’re legit.

So, to try to grasp the size of Your forces

is impossible for my mind to conceive.

But it causes a great sense of comfort and protection and safety

to rise up within me.

In You
I’m safe.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“…see…the oppression among her people.”
(Amos 3:9)

You do see, Jesus!

You see and care.

That means so much to me!

To know it breaks Your heart too
is comfort in our sorrow.

But even more, to know that You’re All-Powerful

and that even while the oppression is going on
Your plan to intervene in Your perfect way and time

is operational.

It’s my responsibility to fight oppression.

But You’re the only one who can stop it in its tracks.
