Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“If anyone becomes aware that they are guilty—if they unwittingly touch anything ceremonially unclean (whether the carcass of an unclean animal, wild or domestic, or of any unclean creature that moves along the ground) and they are unaware that they have become unclean, but then they come to realize their guilt…they must confess in what way they have sinned.”
(Leviticus 5:2,5)

If I unknowingly do wrong, Jesus

I’ve still done wrong.

You want me to confess it

so You can forgive it.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: ‘You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.’”
(Matthew 3:6-8)

John the Baptist didn’t mince words, Jesus!

When all is said and done
more is said than done.

Words are cheap.

I’ve got to back mine up with action.

Pray this Lazaroo in Spirit-led recognition:

“The man said, ‘The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’ Then the LORD God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’”
(Genesis 3:12-13)

We insist it’s someone else’s fault, Jesus.

Even though it isn’t.

No matter what the temptation, the threat, the incentive, the circumstances

if I said it or did it, it’s my fault.

Period.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
(Genesis 3:11)

You had just asked the ultimate rhetorical question, Jesus.

Obviously, You knew he had eaten from the tree you told him not to.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t have bothered him to be without clothing.
Just as obviously, he knew You knew.

What do I do when You nail me off-base through Your Word?

Do I excuse myself…

…or confess and repent?

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…fix your thoughts on Jesus…whom we confess.”
(Hebrews 3:1)

Okay, Jesus…

I confess that I know You –

not as well as I should
but enough to love You with all my heart.

I confess that I need You!

Because of my sins, I was on my to hell
before You saved me.

I confess that I’m not living for You as I should –

but that I’m giving it all I’ve got
to become everything You’ve created me to be.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned realization:

“…they have rebelled against you.”
(Psalms 5:10)

Some people rebel against You defiantly and openly, Jesus.

Others do so while outwardly professing their faith in You.

If all sin is a form of rebellion then I shamefully confess:

I’ve rebelled against You.

No, I’ve not rejected You as my Savior

but every time I do what I know I shouldn’t
I’ve rebelled against You as my LORD.

How dare I – Your soldier in Heaven’s army –

disobey my Commanding Officer?

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled zeal:

“I have been most rebellious.”
(Lamentations 1:20)

That’s quite a confession, Jesus…

especially because of who’s making it.

This is no rapist, murderer, pillager, criminal.

The great prophet Jeremiah is speaking!

He’s the one who faithfully obeyed You throughout his life –

and suffered greatly for it.

He’s the one You appointed over nations and kingdoms –

to tear down, destroy, build and plant.

If he could be this humble and self-aware of his sins

who am I to be less?

Pray this Lazaroo in triumphant humility:

“…he has…sent me against the nations that have plundered you…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

That’s all I need to know, Jesus.

There will come a day when You will send Your mighty angel

to right the wrongs
to pay back evildoers
to make sure justice is served
to avenge me of my adversaries.

Of course, I don’t want that angel to visit me!

So I need to be sure that whatever wrongs I’ve committed
are confessed, repented of, forsaken, under Your blood.

Strap on your armor as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
(2 Timothy 2:3)

So much for pacifism, huh, Jesus?

You haven’t called me to join a country club.
You’ve called me to serve in Your army.

This life is a battle.

If I want to win, I can’t sit back and watch.
I’ve got to fight.

Confession?

Sometimes I get battle-weary.
I want to call “Time out!”

But that’s not gonna happen, is it?

The moment I let down my guard
I lose.
