Stand strong! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace.”
(Daniel 3:19-20)

That had to be terrifying, Jesus!

They stood strong for You
and it was about to cost them their lives.

Satan set up this moment, confident they would back down.

But they didn’t.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.”
(2 Corinthians 4:10-11)

That explains a lot, Jesus!

Not the explanation I was hoping for
but the one I fully embrace

confident that You know better than I do.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go off into the wasteland and perish. The caravans of Tema look for water, the traveling merchants of Sheba look in hope. They are distressed, because they had been confident; they arrive there, only to be disappointed. Now you too have proved to be of no help…”
(Job 6:18-21)

That’s one of the toughest things You put me through, Jesus…

to let me find out the hard way
that the only one I can truly trust –

including myself –

is You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“Lord my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands—if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my foe—then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust.”
(Psalms 7:3-5)

David was absolutely confident of his righteousness, Jesus!

I…not so much.

All I can pray is:

Please be merciful to me, a repentant sinner.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“They dash to the city wall…”
(Nahum 2:5)

That’s what enemy soldiers did, Jesus…

when attacking a city they felt confident they could destroy.

They didn’t crawl or walk.

They ran to the wall –
eager to destroy those cowering within.

Perhaps that’s what the enemies of my soul do, Father.

They’ve seen the sins and blunders of my past.
They assume I’ll keep right on sinning and blundering.

But by Your grace and in Your strength:

Not this time.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Confident of your obedience…”
(Philemon 1:21)

I wish You could be confident of mine, Jesus!

I wish my friends and family could be.
I wish I could be.

But I’m not.

Oh, I’m confident of my good intentions.

You know all about those, too.

I sure do mean well.

But my follow-through needs some work.

I don’t have to tell You that last statement was an understatement.

My follow-through needs a lot of work.

Help me. Please.
Help me.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…Jesus Christ…will be with us…”
(2 John 1:3)

That’s what I have to know, Jesus –

that You’ll be with me.

I’m aware that’s backwards.

I’m the one who’s supposed to be following You.

And I am.
Imperfectly.

Which is why I need reassurance
when I mess up.

Because it’s when I’m outnumbered, overwhelmed, flat-out scared

that I have to be confident You’ll never leave me alone.

But that’s the secret, isn’t it?

You’re with me
when I’m with You.
