Your love

Who You Are.

No matter how big my ask

You can go bigger –

immeasurably bigger.

No matter how wild I let my imagination run

You can trump it

immeasurably.

I hit the jackpot when I found You!

You found me.
It was all You.

even better to discover it firsthand.

Just wondering…

what’s my reputation?
what do people experience with me firsthand?

I hope they speak well of me!

But whether they do or don’t

all that really matters is what You think of me.

“I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.”
(Ephesians 3:13)

It’s hard not to be discouraged by suffering, Jesus

especially when it’s happening to me, personally.

But that wasn’t why Paul was suffering.

He was suffering for others!

O God.

Grow me up in my faith.
Give me Paul’s compassion for others!

Correction: That’s not Paul’s compassion.

That kind of compassion
comes straight from You

proven 2,000 years ago
on the cross.

That’s the key, isn’t it, Jesus?

I’ve got to continue what I started.

Correction.

I’ve got to continue what You started in me!

And of course, if it was indeed You who started it

I will continue.

It’s when people have a form of godliness

but deny Who You really Are
that they don’t continue.

The proof today that I’m on my way to heaven through faith in You?

I’m still here.

Just living the life You’ve called me to live
leaving my reputation to You?

I can do that.

Correction: With Your help, I can do that.

My tendency is to try to fix what others think of me.
But every time I try, I only end up looking worse.

Best leave that to You.

I hate hypocrisy, Jesus.

And others hate it in me.

Oh, I don’t think I’m a hypocrite! Not at all…

until someone I love –
or someone I don’t love as much as I should –

points it out.

My first response? Denial.

“I’m no hypocrite!”

But then, Holy Spirit, comes Your inner voice:

“Actually, they’re right.
You don’t mean to be a hypocrite
but in this instance, you are.”

Denial stops.
Correction commences.

Not at all worth following, Jesus!

If I’m following myself
I’m going in circles.

I’m looking in the mirror to get direction.
I’m answering my own questions.

I’m in a self-destructive loop
turning further and further inward
without hope of course correction.

I’m committing the ultimate sin:

making myself my god.

Until I look outside myself

I’m not going anywhere.

If I follow anyone but You

I’m going nowhere
worth going.

Everything You do for me is sufficient, Jesus!

…not to mention unique.

What’s sufficient for me may not be for someone else.

Thank You for not giving me the one-size-fits-all treatment!

The way You reward me is different from what You do for everyone else.

So is the way You correct me.

But please help me remember that for others, it may be too much…too little…

…or need to be something else entirely.

Peter wasn’t infallible, Jesus.

Nor was Paul, who opposed him.
Nor is any leader, no matter how wise, respected or famous.

Nor am I.

Sooner or later, we all need to be corrected.

But when it’s my turn to be corrected
may it be by somebody like Paul

who opposed Peter to his face
rather than behind his back.
