Stand in awe of God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…he sets up kings …”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

Just one more reminder, Jesus:

You…Are All-Powerful.

Kings are the most powerful people on earth.

They answer to no one.
They are mind-blowingly wealthy.
If they want something, they get it.
On a whim, they can spare or end someone’s life.
Not only are they above the law…they are the law.

But no one gets to be a king

unless You say so.

Pray this Lazaroo in bedrock-deep resolve:

“They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind…”
(Jude 1:13)

People like this are nearly impossible to live with, Jesus!

They say one thing one day
something else the next.

They stand for nothing
fall for anything.

They stick up a wet finger
to determine which way the latest puff of air is blowing.

Their current position
depends on whoever they were last with.

May I never, never, ever!

be counted among their

unstable
unreliable
wishy-washy midst.

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“…speak my words to them.”
(Ezekiel 3:4)

Is there any holier privilege, Jesus –

than to know Your Word
and share it with others?

Perhaps I take it for granted.

If so, please remind me
that billions of people on this planet cannot.

Have I ever passed up such an opportunity –
one You’ve lovingly, strategically provided?

I’m sure I have

for fear
because I wasn’t paying attention.

May I not be guilty of such an inexcusable omission

in 2016.

Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“I pray…”
(3 John 1:2)

O Jesus!

As I plunge into this New Year
may this increasingly be true of me:

I pray.

Not past tense –

something I did for a while
got discouraged, distracted, disappointed

lost focus

then quit.

Not future tense –

something I sincerely mean to get around to
as soon as I get the chance

unless, of course, something comes up.

But something I do present tense –

come rain or shine throughout the day
every day.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“Jerusalem has become an unclean thing…”
(Lamentations 1:17)

That’s the last thing I want to happen, Jesus…

but because of my sin

it has –

too many times to count.

I beg You for Your help.

I’m sincere. I mean it to the bone.

Then, when tempted

too often I push Your help aside
and plunge into the cesspool

for another putrid dip.

What am I thinking, Father?

Obviously, I’m not.

Cleanse me! Purify me! Rescue me!

…once again.

Pray this Lazaroo…with goose bumps:

“…the truth, which lives in us…”
(2 John 1:2)

When you speak, Jesus…

every word matters.

You didn’t say, “the truth, which You’ve heard…”

although faith comes by hearing Your Word.

You didn’t say, “the truth, which you’ve read…”

though I need to read the Bible every day.

You didn’t say, “the truth, which you’ve memorized…”

although I definitely need to do just that.

You said Your truth lives in me!

It’s alive! Active! Working! Transforming me
into Your amazing Image.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep resolve:

“…they are not gods at all.”
(Jeremiah 2:11)

As I begin this New Year, Jesus

please help me quickly – and once for all –
identify
which aspects of my life are “not gods at all.”

Is there any person, place or thing that wants to become my god?

Is there anything or anyone I’m holding onto
more tightly than I’m holding onto You?

If so, please show me!

I can’t afford to drag that kind of baggage
into 2016.
