Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…for the sake of the Name…”
(3 John 1:7)

Your Name, Jesus –

the Name above every name.

What John did for the sake of Your Name is legendary.

What am I willing to do for the sake of Your Name?

You’re the Creator of all –

the one who gave Your life for me before I was born
knowing the sins I’d commit
knowing how often I’d let You down.

What am I willing to do…

for the sake of Your Name?

Ask God for grace, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…so they may become like me.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

Jeremiah wasn’t asking You to make his enemies wealthy, Jesus.

He wasn’t asking You to make them strong.
He wasn’t asking You to make them happy.

Jeremiah was pleading with You to make his enemies miserable!

…because that’s what He was.

I sure understand why he felt that way.

It’s incredibly hard to watch my enemies dance over my misfortune.

But You’ve given me a new command:

Love my enemies.

Maybe rethink a few things, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I ask that we love one another.”
(2 John 1:5)

Why does John make this request, Jesus?

Because too often, we don’t love one another.

Oh, we say we do…

but when all is said and done
more is said than done –

especially when it comes to love.

We love one another like we love potato chips –

until things go stale.

We love one another like we love some teams –

until they lose.

Please LORD!

Help me love like You.

Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“…how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the LORD your God…”
(Jeremiah 2:19)

Most of the time it’s not You punishing us, is it, Jesus?

It’s that refusing to obey You
carries its own consequences.

If I’m a liar, people stop trusting me.
If I’m a thief, I’ll end up in jail.
If I’m unfaithful, my spouse may divorce me.

You made me.

You know what causes me to thrive
and what leads to my destruction.

Pray this Lazaroo in painful recognition:

“…the lust of the eyes…”
(1 John 2:16)

When you use that word, “lust,” Jesus

it makes it hard to admit.

Oh, sure – there are certain things I see and would like to have

but I wouldn’t call what I’m feeling “lust.”

What sobers me, however, is this haunting question:

Is “lust” what You call it?

If You do
then that’s what it is.

I have this tendency to regard the sins I commit as minor.

But do You?

Pray this Lazaroo in growing wisdom:

“…human pride brought low…”
(Isaiah 2:11)

There’s a kind of pride that is good, wholesome, healthy, Jesus.

It’s being proud of You.
It’s being proud of what You do.
It’s being proud of what You enable others to do.

But human pride takes no notice of You.

Human pride puffs itself up
boasting that all its achievements come from itself.

Godly pride points to the heavens to acknowledge You.

Human pride pounds on its own chest

until it collapses.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…these teachers will exploit you…”
(2 Peter 2:3)

That’s not what they’re supposed to do, Jesus

not even teachers who don’t know You
let alone those who claim they do.

Teachers are supposed to dispense information

at the very least enable us to regurgitate it
at best…equip us to lead better, more productive lives

maybe even Godly lives.

So when a teacher sells out to exploit their students?

My guess is:

In Your perfect way and time
You’ll step in.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“My lover is mine and I am his…”
(Song of Songs 2:16)

What a beautiful expression of Godly married love, Jesus!

The wife admits: She belongs to her husband
then adds: Her husband belongs to her.

Mutuality.

Her husband owns her.
He’s bought her with himself.

She owns her husband.
She’s bought him with herself.

They’re one.

Isn’t that how You said it was supposed to be in the very beginning?

To this very day…

great marriages follow suit.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the only One who is from everlasting to everlasting:

“…the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.”
(1 Peter 2:24)

Everything we know has a beginning and an end, Jesus…

except You.

You had no beginning. You have no end.

You’ve always been.
You will always be.

Your Word is the same, because Your Word flows from You!

Your Word stands forever.

If I stand on Your Word

then I, too –

though I have had a beginning –

will have no end.
