Pray this Lazaroo in humble obedience:

“The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Recab…”
(Nehemiah 3:14)

Well, somebody had to repair that odoriferous gate, Jesus!

and good ol’ Malkijah was the one to do it.

I would guess that the line of people signing up for this job

was pretty short.

But not everything that needs to be done

is fun to do.

If all I do is what’s fun

a whole lot of what’s needed will go undone

…and that’s no fun.

Pray this Lazaroo in head-shaking amazement:

“…a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.”
(1 Timothy 2:7)

We’re talking nothing short of a miracle, Jesus!

…that You called Paul, a passionate, Gentile-despising Jew
to be the apostle to the Gentiles.

When Paul announced to his people that You had sent him to the Gentiles

they immediately tried to kill him.

But today, Gentile believers passionately love and support the Jews

and demand that their leaders defend Israel
against all who want to annihilate them.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful wonder:

“…they sang to the LORD: ‘He is good; his love to Israel endures forever.’”
(Ezra 3:11)

Everybody can sing that first line, Jesus!

But that second line?

Everybody can sing it
but not everybody can identify with it.

Israel is Your treasured possession, Your people chosen above everyone on earth!

Only those descended from Abraham
can personally embrace the promise of that last line

…along with those who, like I
trust in You with the faith of Abraham!

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“…saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:13)

It’s sure not by my work, Jesus.

Thank You, Holy Spirit!

My work is spotty.

Sometimes pathetic.

Even when I’m having what for me is a pretty obedient day

my track record says it won’t last.

Oh, I intend for it to!

I beg You to make it happen.

But time and again I drop the ball

and come crawling back to You

asking for forgiveness and mercy.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble awareness:

“He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold…”
(2 Chronicles 3:7)

Well…not exactly, Jesus.

Solomon ordered the work done.
It wouldn’t have happened without him.

But he didn’t personally overlay anything.
It was the workers who performed that golden task.

Leaders are essential…

…but so are workers.

Neither can succeed without the other.

Sometimes I’m the leader
sometimes I’m a worker.

But in whichever role I serve You

remind me to respect the other.

Sharpen your awareness, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the Jews…killed the Lord Jesus…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:14-15)

I can’t begin to imagine how much that hurt, Jesus!

…to be hated so fiercely by Your own people.

But not all of them demanded that You be crucified.

Your disciples were Jews.

In the early days, most of Your followers were Jews.

It was the Jewish leaders who deserve most of the blame.

Though not even all of them.

Never let me paint my accusations

with too broad a brush.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Now I rejoice…”
(Colossians 1:24)

Being able to rejoice in something good is wonderful, Jesus!

But that word, “Now” gives me pause.

Maybe Paul didn’t mean it how it sounds…

but I might infer that only because He liked what he was seeing
could he now begin to rejoice.

But by faith –

You want me to rejoice in You and what You’re doing
every day of my life – at all times!

whether I like what’s happening
or not.

Stuff to check as you pray this Lazaroo:

“’What!’ exclaimed the king of Israel. ‘Has the Lord called us three kings together only to deliver us into the hands of Moab?’”
(2 Kings 3:10)

They had been marching through the desert for a week, Jesus. Now they were out of water.

Faced with this terrifying development
the King of Israel blames You.

Help me go to school:

1. Make sure I get my marching orders from You.

2. If I have, trust You to supply everything I need.
