Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“…they…prostituted themselves to other gods…”
(Judges 2:17)

You hate idol worship, don’t You, Jesus?

It’s not theoretical.
It’s not legalistic.
It’s Personal.

To You, it’s like it would be for a husband

who discovered his wife was moonlighting as a prostitute
while he was at work.

That helps me understand a little better

why You command us to smash idols

why, after giving us chance after chance to repent

You’re finally forced to punish the very ones You love.

On this Christmas day, pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…they…stayed there three days…”
(Joshua 2:22)

So how long do You want me to stay where I am, Jesus?

A day? Three? A year?
For the rest of my life?

It’s good to know I’m where You want me

but to presume I will never move
is a mistake.

You want me to enjoy where You’ve placed me

but not to become complacent, thinking
“Now I know how this is going to play out.”

No.
Huh-uh.
I don’t know.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“…the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.”
(Acts 2:20)

You’ve made it clear, Jesus:

You’re coming.

I know it will happen.

I just don’t know when.

I know it will happen because You declared in advance You would come the first time.

And on this Christmas Eve I’m reminded:
You kept Your Word!
You came!

But this next coming of Yours?

Wow. What a day that will be!

When You rescue Your people
from the coming wrath.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“They were responsible for the care of the sanctuary…”
(Numbers 3:38)

What a high and holy responsibility, Jesus!

Surely they recognized the honor You had bestowed on them.
Surely they never resented this work, no matter how hard.

During this age, Your sanctuary in that form no longer exists.

But that doesn’t mean we’re left with no sanctuary.

That one was but a copy of Your true sanctuary in heaven.

What an honor one day to serve You there –

forever!

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…the Mighty One has done great things for me…”
(Luke 1:49)

That’s how Mary felt when she was pregnant with You, Jesus!

And she was right.

To be chosen as the mother of the Savior of the world?

Priceless.

You have done great things for me, too, Mighty One!

To be chosen as the child of the Creator of the Universe!
The Alpha and Omega! The Bright Morning Star!
The One who loves with an Everlasting Love?

Priceless.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“Jesus…stayed outside in lonely places…”
(Mark 1:45)

The crowds wouldn’t leave You alone, would they, Jesus?

Once they discovered You could heal, cast out demons
feed thousands of people with one boy’s lunch
teach like no one they’d ever heard

they pursued You day and night.

You’re the same yesterday, today and forever.

You remain a miracle-working God.

Now in Your glorified body, You don’t need sleep or rest.

You invite me to passionately pursue You

day and night.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“The LORD, the God of your fathers…”
(Exodus 3:16)

That gets my attention, Jesus

no matter who the lord of my fathers was.

Maybe the lord of my fathers was some false god.

Maybe my fathers didn’t believe in any god
leaving them to be god of themselves.

Or maybe You were the God of my fathers

the one true LORD and God
Creator of heaven and earth –

everyone’s God –

whether or not they acknowledge You as Savior

…or Judge.

Pray this Lazaroo, counting on God to make it right:

“…you have…shown partiality…”
(Malachi 2:9)

You hate that, don’t You, Jesus?

So do I.

When the playing field isn’t level

when referees favor one team over the other
when the in-crowd accepts a few and shuns the rest
when a parent loves one child more than another

when one person is given more than the other
though both deserve it equally.

when the outcome is decided in advance

behind closed doors
before the public vote
which takes place only for show.

Draw upon God’s strength, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They plunge through defenses without breaking ranks.”
(Joel 2:8)

Such was this supernatural, punishing plague of locusts, Jesus.

For them to plunge through all defenses was terrifying enough.
But to do so without confusion or loss?

They were simply mowing down everything in their path.

May no such enemy ever be unleashed on me!

or on those I love.

But it makes me wonder:

If evil can do that
why don’t we – in Your strength –

do that to Satan?

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“So man will be brought low and mankind humbled…”
(Isaiah 2:9)

Kinda good for me to keep that in mind, Jesus.

When You generously gift me
then bless me on top of that

I can begin to take if for granted
forget from Whom my blessings flow
get full of myself

…which forces You to back off on Your blessings

until I get my nose out of the air
my head screwed back on straight
and my heart right.
