Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.”
(Colossians 2:4)

As hard as it is to imagine, Jesus

there are so many people out there
who enjoy deceiving others.

That’s the work of Satan, isn’t it?

They don’t believe in You.
They couldn’t!

If they believed in a God who sees and hears and knows all

there’s no way in this world
they would practice this kind of deceit.

I’m begging You, Father:

Protect me!

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned recognition:

“…no lie comes from the truth.”
(1 John 2:21)

What a powerful reminder, Jesus!

Every lie comes from the pits of hell

from the father of lies:

Satan.

If I tell a lie, that’s where I went to get it.

That’s who I consorted with to produce it.

If someone else lies to me, they pulled it right out of the flames.

They buddied up with Satan – if only a moment –

to receive it from his dirty, filthy, deceiving

smelly, evil hands.

Kinda makes me wanna stick to the truth.

Watch out! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh…”
(2 John 1:7)

On the one hand, I don’t blame them, Jesus.

Your coming to this world as a 100% human baby

was a stunner.

No wonder we’ve created an entire holiday called, “Christmas”

to celebrate Your virgin birth!

But these are not sincere truth seekers, Father.

They’re deceivers.

Which means they’re not contradicting Your Word because they’re confused

but in order to manipulate others to their own advantage.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“The woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’”
(Genesis 3:13)

Who among us cannot identify with those words, Jesus?

Not one.

Every human being on earth old enough to know right from wrong

knows what it is to be deceived by Satan
and to give in to temptation.

I’d do well to remember that my soul has an enemy and a name:

Satan!

So that in the strength of Your superior Name

I can tell him:

“NO!”

Pray this Lazaroo in desperate need:

“…rid yourselves of…all deceit…”
(1 Peter 2:1)

I hate being deceived, Jesus!

I long to take people at their word.

It’s so much work to study their body language
and facial giveaways.

I fervently wish I lived in a “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” world.

But I don’t.

So that means I have to be a good evaluator, doesn’t it?

Except…some people are really good deceivers.

Looks like I need to tap into one of Your priceless treasures –

the supernatural gift of discernment.

Pray this Lazaroo in Holy Spirit-led caution:

“…with their tongue they speak deceit.”
(Psalms 5:9)

I don’t want to believe there are people like this, Jesus.

I’d rather think they accidentally misspoke.
I prefer to believe they didn’t mean what they said.

Perhaps that’s why You mention the terrible practice of deceit

more than 100 times in Your Word.

I have to remove my rose-colored glasses, don’t I?

The evidence all around me is too great to ignore.

Open my eyes to those whose tongues speak deceit!

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the only true God:

“…there were also false prophets among the people…”
(2 Peter 2:1)

Always have been, Jesus.

Way back in the day…
all the way to this very moment.

Some of them have wanted so badly to hear from You

that they’ve ended up deceiving themselves

actually believing that what they’re spouting originated with You

instead of in the dark recesses of their deluded minds.

Others are fakes, charlatans, phonies.

They’re lying to the gullible
and they know it.

Spare me, Father!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with…every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:9-10)

May evil never deceive me, Jesus!

Of course, it has
too often.

But even while I partook of its lies, sampled Satan’s wares

I knew better.

When I’m tempted to sin, You continue to warn me

when I give in to temptation, You convict me

which is why I pray:

May evil never again deceive me!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“He assigns our fields to traitors.”
(Micah 2:4)

If you took from me what I had worked so hard for, Jesus

and gave it to my enemies?

I’d be crushed.

But if You gave my most treasured possessions to people I thought were my friends

only to discover they were

deceiving
lying
conniving traitors?

I’d be stunned speechless.

Something tells me I never want to cross You

never want to offend You
never want to get on Your wrong side.

Keep your eyes wide open as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…deceitful men the LORD abhors.”
(Psalm 5:6)

I abhor them too, Jesus.

As uncomfortable and unpleasant as it is to face someone who blatantly detests me

I far prefer dealing with their honest hatred
than thinking someone likes me

who doesn’t.

You know everyone’s heart.

You see their outward speech and behavior
when it masks an evil intent.

Point them out to me, LORD!

Don’t let me fall for their smooth talk
or be undone by their wicked schemes.
