Pray this Lazaroo with self-aware humility:

“…rid yourselves of…all…hypocrisy…”
(1 Peter 2:1)

I hate hypocrisy, Jesus.

And others hate it in me.

Oh, I don’t think I’m a hypocrite! Not at all…

until someone I love –
or someone I don’t love as much as I should –

points it out.

My first response? Denial.

“I’m no hypocrite!”

But then, Holy Spirit, comes Your inner voice:

“Actually, they’re right.
You don’t mean to be a hypocrite
but in this instance, you are.”

Denial stops.
Correction commences.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“…not to be…addicted to much wine…”
(Titus 2:3)

You don’t like any addiction, do you, Jesus?

I shouldn’t like them, either.

If I’m addicted to something – even a good thing, a blessing from You –

I’m surrendering control to it
rather than to You.

What are my addictions, LORD?

Don’t let me hide behind denial.

Help me face them and deal with them

no matter what it costs.

I refuse to allow anything or anyone to control me

except You.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…have you not…become judges with evil thoughts?”
(James 2:4)

I was about to say, “Not me, Jesus!”

But denial does me no good.
Actually, it does me a lot of harm.

So let me ask the One who knows me better than I know myself:

Am I judging unfairly?

If so, what could I be thinking?

Don’t I hate it
when others who have no idea what I’m going through
judge me?

How dare I do that to them!
