I could very well be guilty and not know it.

I have to face it:

There’s a whole lot I don’t understand!

You’re the one who gives understanding.

You know what I need to know
and what I don’t.

Help me grasp what I need
and respond exactly as You desire!

“Now a man who was lame from birth…asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.”
(Acts 3:2-5)

He was about to get something all right, Jesus…

but it wasn’t from Peter and John.

It was from You!

He wanted money, but what he needed was to be healed.

That’s what I desire, Father!

Not what I think I want
but what You know I need.

“If only for this life we have hope in Christ,
we are of all people most to be pitied.”

To paraphrase C.S. Lewis:

I find in myself a desire
that nothing in this world can satisfy.
Clearly, I’m meant for another world.

Send your angels to bring me there to You, Father

when my time has come.

What a lesson, Jesus!

Even though You command me to resist the demonic work
of those powerful angels who followed Satan

because You created them
I’m to treat them with respect

as I do my earth-bound enemies.

Lack of fear can be a good thing, Jesus…

but not in this case.

Fear of doing wrong, knowing full well You’re watching

is the beginning of wisdom.

Most of us don’t have that fear nearly enough.

For some, it’s a lack of belief.

But for others of us
it’s knowing how much You love us!

You’re the one who made the king promote Daniel, Jesus.

Then You laid it on Daniel’s heart
to take his fellow Jews along for the ride.

Take me wherever You desire, LORD!

I have no excuse – but You see it, LORD:

My flesh has some corrupt desires, Jesus –

But that’s not who I want to be!
